| ![]() i had a little argument on youtube with a guy who bashes my company and talks alot of shirt about me. this made me laugh. notice how he cant back up his statements when i ask why they top trees and why they lack PPE and proper training. * do you know that spikes hurt the coconut palm stems? the spike holes never heal do to the fact that they dont have a cambium, xylum and phloem layer to aid in healing process for wounds. tree stands like the ones used for hunting are faster safer and do not damage the coconut stems. i am an ISA certified arborist here on maui and would never spike a coconut tree. climb safe bra joshuarugg 3 months ago * @joshuarugg Mr Rugg, u r one funny character! I think u probably climb less than 10 coconut trees a year with your tree stand. However, the outfit that you are watching and felt the need to inject some arboricultural advice, have done entire hotel properties with 300+ trees in less than 2 days. Spikeless I might add! JUST FYI. Epsta1 6 days ago * @Epsta1 still dont make it right that your lacking safety. according to the ANSI and OSHA A300 tree safety. a climber should have 2 attachment points at all times when cutting aloft in a tree. also TOPPING is not a proper height reduction method and it causes decay and weak branches that fail in a wind storm. the tree becomes more of an issue after it has been topped then before it was topped. i hope you start using more safety brah or someones gonna get killed. have a nice day joshuarugg 4 days ago * @joshuarugg Mr. Rugg, you telling me Topping is wrong, is like telling a Firefighter that starting fires is bad. You are preaching to choir buddy! Here's some info! Any tree contractor who holds a State of County tree trimming contract must staff a 5 year arborist, NO EXCEPTIONS! Any tree contractor who TOPPS a tree on State or County property can have their contract terminated or be barred from future bidding. Do your research next time brah! Epsta1 1 day ago * @Epsta1 hahahah, thats why you guys "top" trees on non state residential properties right, so you can avoid the state? haha Im sure you tell home/property owners, large trees are a hazard and dangerous and they have to be topped to make them safer. dont lie brah, i have many accounts that got bids from you guys and the homeowners all told me the same thing that you guys tell them to get thier trees topped for safety and health. LOL @joshuarugg until you get more equipment and stop working out of your old pick up truck and rusted hand saw please refrain from speaking to me you rookie! Mr joshnorugg!!! Epsta1 1 day ago @Epsta1 equipment means nothing if you cant use it right. i guess thats why you use bucket trucks huh. your too sophisticated for climbing and rigging gear. lol i bet you guys dont even know how to set up and use a simple port-o-wrap or negative rigging system with the usage of double braid rigging lines and how to use mechanical advantage systems. joshuarugg 1 minute ago stop working out of your rusty pickup truck and rusty hand saws. HAHAHAH that made me laugh soo hard i just about cried. ![]() |

| Quote: that comment is awesome eric ![]() ![]() ![]() on a side note, most of the major Tongan companies here let their climbers wear tennis shows at work. i have never seen a guy wearing actual boots let alone climber boots. Last edited by Joshua Rugg; 24th March 2011 at 08:14 PM. | |

This thread kinda reminds me of all those American tree service ads I saw on youtube a while ago. It was like the Yellow Pages channel and all these companies were talking up their topping services.

In his other videos he shows his guys using Baumvelo climbers and a tree platform so they can do spikeless. I'd say he prices in a variety of ways and customers may opt for the cheaper spiking... maybe. ![]() The platform has lugs which do dig in and leave marks, not the best. In his video of the Baumvelo climbers he shows how they break and crack (1min in), not good for that price of around $1500 Euro.

eric the tree stand i use doesn't leave marks on the stems at all actually. it uses a steel cable that wraps around the trunk to secure the platform. its really nice on windy days you just lanyard around the stem and walk up the trunk. check it out YouTube - Pure Life Palm Trimmers : Spikeless Coconut Climbing on Maui Hawaii Last edited by Eric Frei; 25th March 2011 at 08:38 AM. i enjoy palms alot. ![]() i make about 40$-50$ per palm for trimming and depending on height and how thick the crown is, removals can cost anywhere between $600-$1200 US$. if it needs to be rigged down it can cost usually between $1000-$2000 not including stump grinding. with stumping we tack on another $200 or so. were cheap because were the new guys on the block and are trying to build a client list. ![]() |
