Default Fitness/flexibility

Curious what/if any of you do to maintain your fitness and flexibility for climbing ?

I don't climb, but I love my Yoga. Being on the wrong side of 40 now it keeps me supple and strong and (hopefully) prevents me, or reduces my chances of breaking down, particularly after herniating a disc and tearing muscle and ligaments a bit over ten years ago in my lower back/pelvis.

I'm on the wrong side of 50, and you need to do something. I'll do core work with handstands, planks, etc. I tumble and stretch, (i use yoga, but keep it simple). I deffinatly work my legs. With leg workouts I'll use light weight, (mostly step squats). I also do depth jumps, an ankle hops, (no weights).

I need to get some more upper body workouts going. Had a largeish climb and I hadn't climbed for 2 weeks before that, it totally killed my arms.

I'm with kiwi_tree_steve, I go to work. I have a total gym in my office that I try to use on occasion, but that room is so cluttered with ropes, chainsaw parts, guitars, and whatever my wife can't find room for, I generally steer clear when I can. In the winter when it's cold and we don't do so much climbing I try to find something to do to stay fit (usually carrying spools of rope up three flights of stairs to measure and cut).
I have noticed lately that my cardio seems to be lacking, maybe I should start running??? Or maybe I'll stick with Ekka's approach...

lots of forearm, wrist, hand stretches, hamstring stretches, back stretching.

Much more work, mostly climbing.

At home, there's usually wood and chips to deal with, to some degree.

yeah ill go with jay and ekka, if climbing isnt better than a work out at the gym thats air conditioned, where you can wear shorts singlet ill be dammed ive never been to a gym and never will, ive never really met a unfit/fat climber hey. worked with this 55yo ex forestry guy drank 12+ schooners every arvo, smoked like a train and he still worked like a horse.

Agree w/ cole, if you climb regularly(almost every day) who needs a gym or more exercise! But you never met anyone like me cole, I started climbing when I was about 285 lbs. They told me I was too heavy to be a climber, I responded by showing them that they were wrong. After climbing on a regular basis I lost most of the body fat and got down to a pretty lean and extreemly strong 230. Now I'm keeping up with the people who said I couldn't do it even though I'm still big for a climber. No gyms and never quit
