A number of eco sites etc suggest "Dawn", they use it on oil spills and wildlife.

I use acetone to get diesel and oils out of clothing....but I would NOT recommend using solvents on rope. Dawn seems the safe bet. Maybe used in conjunction with a rope washer. Bokat Rope Washer at KarstSports.com A conference center I used to work for has one of these that I try to borrow on occasion to run my ropes through. You might be able to use it with the Dawn somehow. Other's flake a rope into a pillowcase and use the washing machine. (the pillowcase keeping it from tangling around the washer strut) |
