Here's an uplifting little news item...
Retiree Faces Prison For Killing 500 Trees, The Skinny: Nevada Man Convicted Of Destroying Trees Blocking His View Of Las Vegas Strip - CBS News

Now what makes this even more interesting is that I recently visited Nerang State Forest at the Gold Coast Sth Queensland to gather info on an identical case there....You can bet the individual responsible in Queensland will not be looking at jail time, hefty fine yes, and a lovely bill board in place of the trees

The old guys wife described the destruction of over 500 trees as, "wacking a few branches"

Maybe some of the US members here will be able to follow the outcome of the case as I doubt it will get enough coverage for me to follow from Oz....there must be some pretty darn strict veg protection rules in Nevada good on them.

About the only trees in that place would be planted ones anyway, what a dumbazz.

Given how seriously the authorities seem (quite rightly!) to be taking his criminal damage....he's lucky the cop didn't have a tazer on him!!!!!

Having read that, I got the impression that excuses were being made on his behalf.

But considering that this was such a prolonged and well-planned campaign, it really makes sense to dish-out the punishment on it's own merit.

It's really not comparable to anything else.

Let it be it's own issue.

How many years do you think someone should get for this?

I'd say a lot. But I'd change the sentence to require the guy to supply one day's labor, to all the nurseries and landscapers who sign up on a list, for a number of years.

Everybody gets to sign up, and they guy only gets supported by the jail system.

That way he works off the debt, and puts enough labor in to counter-act the damage.

hard labor/work at a firewood yard,split and stack 500 cord/12 hours aday/by hand untill complete/then buy and plant 500 new trees for the county.that should slow him down from any more sight seeing in vegas!! drano

I'm all for that. Gaol would be too good for that idiot. Hell, he may even like Gaol, no soap on a rope and all that.
