Thumbs down Crazy palm pruning LOL

Check out the palms in this caravan park.

I wonder what tree company did this great deed?

Here's the location and Google shows what it was like before.

http://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=Old+Gympie+Road,+Dakabin+Queensland,+Australia&hl=en&ll=-27.213114,152.987838&spn=0.024273,0.066047&sll=-27.213273,152.987838&sspn=0.001529,0.004128&gl=au&t=h&z=15&layer=c&cbll=-27.213273,152.987838&panoid=Xzr2ZNwvfrhsDprzZ13hHA&cbp=12,236.1,,0,-1.58
Nearmap shows it as being done between 26 May 2011 and 17 June 2011. I do not go to that part of town often but that was definitely worth the visit.

What a masacre I would be outraged but there only Cocos palms....they should have pruned them from the bottom..however this scene does remind me of the Banana Plantations after the cyclones...the caravans give it away though... sure is cowboy country up there...

Seems pretty bad from a business point of view also, could have had a nice regular tidy up job there with a decent number of palms.

Now that's just funny!! Who ever did it just lost a good yearly income. But on the bright side...they can now give an estimate for removals.

I spent a few years trying to understand the reasons people do such things to trees.
Ignorance .
Laziness ( they dont want to make an effort to find out )
and lack of money (DIY's).
Amazingly people dont even think of taking advantage of the free quotes offered by many arborists and if they did they do, in fact, pick our brains for the best way to do the remedial works and gain a brief over view of the why's and hows of doing such work.
I have generally always phoned the contractor I suspect to have done the job and asked why they did such work.
Over-ridingly the answer is always...the owner told me thats what they wanted. To which i ask ..." Did you argue the point against? "
To which they answer..."They have to just do as they're told".
Unless its being cut down/ removed always do what you know to be the best for the living specimen when pruning.

If you get down and the client is still not happy and them ,having made a common sense judgement about aesthetics and longevity continue down their ignorant and beligerant path of bad choices you cant say that you didn't try to be a spokesperson for the defensless tree.
If you dont try to educate your clients into making better choices for their specimen trees, then you are not a committed professional arborist.
Fight for what is best practice and be determined to deliver win/win/win outcomes.

Well it does look crazy, but with the Hendra Virus around I think maybe they were just being careful and probably will remove them altogether. I know I would, bat attracting non native crap.

Maybe this is their strategy for drying out palm to use as firewood. Leave them as sticks in the ground so no one else can steal them!

Does anyone recommend that customers do a removal on say the cocos around their pool and replace them with bangalows-or would other palm species be a better replacement candidate?

They all get some sort of fruit, and alex's + bangalow's get real tall, so we do removals of them too.

About the best would be majestic palms, slower growing and few berries, but they get large dia butts.

Golden canes are clumping and screening, but they get berries too.

There really is a market for a palm that looks like an Alex but only grows 3m-5m tall.
