Default Cowboys, Hacks, bodgers and Idiots

Hey,

Imagine parking your car in the morning where you usually park it, only to come back in the afternoon to find it buried under branches damaged by a pack of idiots who didnt care about what they doing ! Is it the fault of the car owners for parking where they did, or did the treeworkers just not care about what they were doing ?

To call the cowboys who undertook this work 'tree surgeons' is an insult to the highly trained professional arborists who would never act in such a manner.

Who ever carried out the work is a person with a cherry picker (m.e.w.p), a chainsaw and nothing more. They clearly haven't got the skill to climb the tree using a rope and harness to remove sections of the tree by controlled methods, or use the mewp to safely dismantle the tree - he is NOT a tree surgeon, just a bodger!!

I say this as an ex arborist who is now a local govt tree officer - part of the hated public sector now I'm afraid!!!

Unreal, it wasn't council, it was a private job (see red section of quote).

The cherry picker guy renting out his cherry picker and cant believe it either. Who the hell would do something this stupid?

Tree surgeons caused outrage when they chopped down branches in a busy street - letting them drop straight onto cars parked beneath.

One log plunged through the sun roof of a Toyota Rav4 as the work was carried out in Bath Road, Cheltenham, yesterday.

Resident Sarah Croney, whose Rover 25 was among the cars damaged by branches between 2.15pm and 4pm, said: 'All they needed to do was put something through my door to let me know. This is a public place to park.'

Croney was told about the damage being done to her car by a friend who drove past the scene.

The 27-year-old personal assistant said she arrived home on Wednesday night to find her car barricaded in by fences and logs, which she was unable to move. A cordon had been placed around the work area to ensure pedestrians were not hurt.

Croney found branches littered around the dented chassis of her car.

But perhaps the Toyota fared the worst: As well as the log which had fallen through the sports utility vehicle's sun roof, it was completely covered with wood and leaves.

It is understood the work was due to be carried out by GHS Civil Engineers of Tuffley, Gloucester.

Police have arrested a 42-year-old man from Gloucester on suspicion of criminal damage.

Rob Forrester of Forrester Access, who owns the 22 metre lorry mounted cherry-picker that was hired to carry out the work, said he was amazed by what he saw.

'They hired the machine from me and I'm horrified about it. As a tree surgeon for 12 years I saw a lot of things, but I've never seen anything like this in my life,' he said.

Dennis Moon, 80, said: 'It's all wrong. They shouldn't be doing that there, but that's what it's like today, isn't it?'

Scaffolder Chris Pickup, 19, said 'It's an absolute joke. If that was my car I'd be climbing the tree to get him to stop.'

Gloucestershire Constabulary spokeswoman Alexa Collicott said: 'We are working with the council and the tree surgeons to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.'

A spokesman for Cheltenham Borough Council said: 'These trees are being removed as part of a private job.

'The owners made us aware of the work they were going to carry out and they did not need council permission.'

That's ridiculous!!! I just finished a job pruning 21 Live Oaks at a Mall all over the parking areas. Of course people wanted to park in the shade. So we coned off the area well outside the crown drip lines and worked. Never dropped so much as one leaf on a car. There were a couple of cars that we couldn't find owners for who parked there before we started so we professionally removed the tree debris very carefull. Nothing to it, except at little extra effort and time. We moved the area as we worked, no excuse for such disregard for others' property or crappy work legacy like that.

If you aren't professional, don't advertise that you are!!!!

Pretty amazing. I've done lots of jobs where the homeowner said they would move the car and didn't -- and we took the tree down or trimmed it without any damage to the car - both from above the car and from moving brush past the car.

Are obviously people who don't care about others property. I kind of agree with the fellow about climbing the tree to get him to stop -- or maybe just cut the tree down (hopefully with him in it) to get his attention.

Reminds you of the old phrase, One bad apple spoils the lot.
