G'day all, I'm a learning climber in Canberra and my ground crew Insurance is about to expire, I need to now be covered to climb. Not sure how much Indemnity should be? I'm currently with Fitzpatrick & Co (Melbourne based I think) and i'm finding it a bit steep. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated cheers. |

Try Tudor insurance brokers, they are generally cheaper than Fitzpatric.

Do not forget that with Fitzpatricks you get that $1million Statuatory Fines and Penalties cover thrown in. That's why I shifted to them away from Tudor, QBE. Also Fitzpatricks paperwork is industry specific not trying to get you to fill in a bunch of paperwork pertinent to lawyers and the like for PI, that was a huge relief. Also ask if Fitzpatricks can match the price, no harm in asking and you get that extra cover tossed in.

Are Fitzpatrick and tudor the two main insurers for tree work in Australia? or are there others who offer cover?

Any broker who makes the effort can do it. I had insurance with a small broker and when Fitzpatrics got in with the Australian Arboricultural Association I lost my cover and was told it was not ethical for my broker to compete with a industry specific discount policy. So I paid more, but the AAA got a cut so I was ok to pay more. But Heaths and QBE are the only companies I know of that are reasonable. |

I'm with Fitzpatricks, can anyone share any experiance they have had in making a claim, I think that is the real measure of an insurance company.
