Default Compost for home users.

A friend of mine is trying to establish a small compost for his flowers. He has asked me to try and find out about the decomposition period of hardwood shavings he produces at work. I don't know anything about this sort of thing, but maybe you guy's do.
Would it have a high acid content that would not be recommended for his plants?

Any advice would be grateful as I'm getting tired of his persistent questions when he is drunk...

Give him a copy of this paper it covers everything anyone composting in a domestic environment needs to know, the hardwood chips will make no difference to the final pH if the ratio of carbon to nitrogen in the intitial pile is 2:3, its that ratio and maintaining aerobic conditions that is the key to successful composting.
