Default Code of Practice: Tree Work 2008 - NSW, Australia

Well here is our latest draft for our Code of Practice for the tree industry. This CoP went from a 28 page document to a 158 page one. There is ALOT in here about hazard/risk management...

A few points in there that I reckon is bs are:

They're trying to make it so that ANYONE that lowers (rigs) must have there doggers ticket

and

Say for example you've got a 50m tree, you've gotta have a 100m rope to climb it so that you can get back down to the ground with NO change overs.

Unfortunately I posted this up a bit late and missed the first rebuttal period, there is should be a second one a little later on... This draft could take upto a year or two to finalize...

So have a read of it and put up your comments

P.S I put this in the general forum because I thought it would get a better response.

Oh but Eric, Work Cover has thought of the consumer! They created a nice little FAQ for them tucked away deep in their website where noone would ever find it.

I never even knew this existed until the Work Cover guy came to our class and we asked what they were doing for consumer awareness this was their reasoning: Tree Work FAQ | Tree Awareness | Tree Removal

Let me see ..... when was the last time a customer knew what an arborist was let alone a certIII in arboriculture? Never.

When was the last time I was asked at a quote for my quals ... cant remember it's been that long.

When I do tell them they dont give a shit and only care if you are cheap. Just today, same exact thing. I was told verbatim by the lady in the $500K+ house ... "make sure you give me your best price as I am getting 2 other quotes."

Might as well just spit in my face. And that's what they say after they suck your brain about their other trees and if they're OK.

By the way, an under $300 job!

They dont give a rats ass if you have a qualification or not, they dont care you answer your phone, return your calls, arrive on time for a quote, be groomed, have nice pamphlets, wooden business card, nice clear written out quote, ABN, insurance, full name including last name etc etc etc all means shit, just be cheap!

Can you work off the hook yet? regardless off humidity? I find it amazing that in the NT you can swing of the hook, while everywhere else its a massive drama. To many Boffins

I beg to differ. I have done the hard yards (15yrs) backyard dragging. Now my favourite word is 'tender'. take your time, keep your qual's relevant and up to date. Quote positively. Dont fear the big guys, it's just a matter of paperwork. Insurance is the key, they have a massive fear of being held responsible. Be it RTA or local councils if you dot the 'i's and cross the 't's' you'll make some good coin!
