I use it all the time. It's name alone is a perfect description of why you should be using it. It prevents your rope from damaging the tree, and in turn helps prevent damage to your rope by creating less friction which makes your climb far easier. Pruning/removal, I'll always use it because it makes my climb easier on the body.

Definitely, use it all the time, saves energy, time and protects the tree. Invest a bit more for a ropeguide or adjustable one and it makes working on a stem easier. You won't regret buying one.

Pully Saver. Majority of the time. Much smoother, less friction, less energy used, easier climb

now always use it. didn't always use it, but soon discovered how much easier it makes life, plus it also prevents a lot of the rubbish falling back onto you as your rope passes over the branch and slowly shreds the bark (think the stringybark type eucs here in VIC)
