Default Burlapping and mulching for the winter?

I have 10 white spruce trees, and I already burlapped them for the winter, we live in pocono summit pa, and its not cold just yet, so should I take the burlap off and just put it on the one thats nearest to the road to avoid salt damage, and also do I need to mulch them? Is that really needed? please let me know.
Thanks.

I wouldn't do it until the first freeze. It can stress the trees due to a lack of sunlight.

Taking burlap off now may force trees into early growth pattern, not good?

I've heard about N fertilization and cold weather damage. But I think a low nutrient mulch may be good for your trees in the long run.

Heres some info. for PA. young evergreen trees. Might not be as good as some local nursery info but...
Quote:
A young tree's best friend, mulch insulates soil, retains moisture, keeps out weeds, prevents soil compaction, reduces lawn mower damage, and adds an aesthetic touch to a yard or street. Remove any grass within a 3-foot area and pour organic mulch such as wood chips or bark pieces 2 to 4 inches deep within the circle. Keep the mulch from touching the trunk of the tree.
Chester County Grown Evergreen Trees, Coatesville, Pa 19320.

I've also used sugar for salt damaged trees. anybody else know of this?

Thanks everyone has been very helpful, and I also forgot to ask if I should put regular kitchen plastic wrap around the one thats super close to the road? and then put the burlap over it? because cant the salt go right through the burlap? I know the white spruce hate salt.

Plastic bags are good but be sure to remove before spring temps. get too high.

Winter covering with plastic, rinsing foliage, mulching and leaching well may be best bet.

If it's going to be a problem every year you might replace with a more tollerant tree.

I always seem to find it a we bit funny to see the trees in the winter here that people cover for freezing time.....I always thought it was to keep the deer and other critters from eating thembut it amazing the small shrubs that people plant UP north that arent suposed to be hereand covering them saves them from the snow load. and the cold. mostley the snow loads here...once its under a few feet of snow well its not so damm cold. Well maybe it is. burrrrr gotta be
