Question Becomming Certified

HI GUYS,
I am new to this site but have learned so much in the few days that I have been a member. My question is how to become a certified arborist. I am 25 and live in Rochester NY U.S.A and own a landscape company. I was subcontracting all of my tree work to a local tree services that is owner operated. The owner is an excellent climber and has been teaching me how to climb (using gaffs/ spurs) for the past year. The only problem I have is that he is very set in his old and I guess hack ways, however I have gained amazing amounts of knowledge from him. I dont have time to go away to a school because I am to busy keeping three crews running and taking care of other jobs, but I want to be able to provide the best and correct service possible to my clients. I have purchased numerous books and continue to read as much as possible. Is their anything anyone can recomend espeacially hands on traing to assit me in my quest for further knowledge.

You probably have already been here International Society of Arboriculture - Certification there's enough info there to get you started...read the FAQ's and the other bits of info then if you have specific questions fire away there are a number of CA's here to help.

What Sean said for education and as for climbing I would suggest concentrating on climbing without spikes for a while in the beginning (if your goal is not being a hack). Order "The Tree Climber"s Companion" by Jeff Jepson 2nd edition and there are a stack of video materials that are great for learning and you can use later for teaching. I have about 40 videos bought from ISA. They are less expensive once you join.

JCONN, like the other have said, I don't know if Ekka allows it or not but here is the ISA website International Society of Arboriculture. There is a another possibility, and that is Arbormaster training, they have courses all over the US. If the link to the ISA gets scrambled, PM me and I will send it to you directly.

Is there any correspondence courses available in USA for Arb?

I'm sure there is, I'm going to dig around some coz for a place that has 50 states and 300 million people there must be many options.

I'm sure Timberbeast did some correspondence courses, flamin have to living in outback Alaska!
