I got a laught at this one tonight on Craigslist here in the PNW. Bad enough that they want you to haul their branches away for free, but to get people to do the tree pruning... OMG! What will they have for a tree if they get the CL gang to finish the hack job? That is already the worst pruning job I have ever seen. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/zip/1044837653.html Branches, limbs - Come and get it! (Sherwood) I have this lovely pile of branches from my tree that lost a large limb last wind storm. I have no way of hauling it so if you want it come and get it. About a pickup load (maybe a little more). I also have a tree (gorgeous when in bloom) that needs some trimming - limbs on the left side of tree are yours too for the taking if you have a chainsaw. Please email if interested! ![]() Last edited by Eric Frei; 23rd February 2009 at 09:10 AM. Reason: fixed link up |

| That one tops the one I saw lol, who would want branches seriously, hahaha.I once saw a post on Freecycle offering free firewood... It went a little like this: "Free firewood, we have council permission to remove our large gum tree next to the house, so bring your chainsaw and it is all yours for free!" ![]()

Ooh, ooh, pick me, can i please have the pleasure. I'll be able to turn those free branches into mulch with my $90,000 woodchipper towed behind my $50,000 truck after it is cut up with my $2000 chainsaw operated by my $30 per hour employee and all he has to do is drive a 3 hour round trip of 150 kms with diesel at $1.75 per liter. If we have a real good day, and nothing goes wrong, there are no breakdowns or accidents, we might end up with $10 worth of mulch! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We have seriously been asked to do chipping for the mulch and trees for the firewood |

How about the people who say that if you're gonna take the wood too then they want a cheaper price, and otherwise they want you to cut it all up for them, fireplace sized, for the same quote total? Like yeah, really, I'm cutting this PINE up cuz I really NEED the wood.... |

Well, it just keeps getting better around here. Here is another one. Note that this guy is demanding that you grind the stump and chip all the branches too. Like, it would be a real privilige to do all that (and no wonder my chipper is idle 3 days a week in this place!). I mean, its the rarest of walnut, a little itty bitty walnut. Worth its weight in... er, um, walnut! Yah, that's it! Worth its weight in walnut! And after the wood has been cut and dried, it will burn real good. Might be enough there for one night of a romantic fire. Well worth the price of a chipper and stump grinder and the time to and from, the gas and all the effort. I bet its gone already! Free Walnut Tree Free walnut tree IF you remove the stump Everything must be taken OR turned into wood chips Removing to add sunlight to a garden area It would be best to call me 503-473-4322 I will remove the ad when an agreement has been reached to have the tree removed, I promise, please do not email me asking if the tree is still available Funny, the ad is still there... must be a mistake! Here is the prized tree mentioned in the ad: |

Can we check other trade areas like plumbing and building etc. I want to see, do they advertise like "free terracotta earthenware pipes if you replace with new".... or perhaps "old timber fence suit average yard if you remove including posts and concrete" what about "Scrooge's brain cells if you can successfully separate from my own" ![]()

| ![]() As for the walnut, dumb asses don't realize that a little walnut's got a very high percentage of sapwood which has no lumber value, it is pure white. Then it ends up mediocre firewood at best. Please let me be the one to do it for free. Please please. |

Well, never mind the wood value. Think about the liability! I am sure they would complain about the chips, or the way the stump was ground down, or saying that their house needs a new roof becasue of the damage taking the tree down. Or sue, claiming that the value of the pithwood is in the millions of dollars and that they are really getting ripped off by us tree butchers. They imply that they are leaning toward legal stuff when they post verbage like, "when an agreement has been reached to have the tree removed". An agreement? For you taking the tree down for free? That's right, sign here and here, and here and initial here, and you are bonded, insured, certified, and licensed? We should show up with a stack of money for them just for the privilige of cutting that tree down! |

![]() Yah, I can see that ad now.... Old rusting water pipes are yours for free! Just replace them with new PVC or copper pipes, and you can keep the old galvanized pipes for free. Also available old rusting iron sewar pipes. Filled with years of valuable sludge. Yours for the taking if you replace them with new ABS pipes. Makes yah wonder... all these people think that tree branches, firewood, and sapwood have more value than chippers and stump ginders in the tens of thousands of dollars. Never mind your time and effort, and overhead like gas, insurance, licensing, advertizing, and maintenence. Problem is that the more ads like this that pop up, the more ideas people get about stuff like arborist services. "Look honey, we can get someone to take that old eyesore of a tree down for free!" | |
