no no it wasnt like that haha. i dont have my drivers license and they wanted me to get it and then my CDL right off the bat. my situation was good up there becuase half the crew was staying in a camper so we didnt have to drive everywhere. the boss said the city job we were working on was comming to an end and we will be working back in the companies home town in a couple of weeks. he decided that i shoud go home since i cant drive well enough to get a CDL and there is no way for me to stay on a crew if i dont have a cdl. he sends out 3 man crews and they all have to drive a truck which is over the GVW weight restrictions. :/ its sad becuase they all liked me and thought i was a good guy and didnt want me to go but the boss had no place for me to stay and he didnt want to burden the employees with driving me around. i understand that much but its just tough as i thought this would be my big break into production tree work. now im back to a small opperation with a pickup-chiptruck and chipper. oh and did i mention palms palms and more stinkin palms.

Well, that sucks!, Did you disclose this ahead of time or was the owner not doing his homework? Don't make sense, I would keep a climber over a driver, weird. Jeff |

I was wondering how you were making out -- would it worth your while to write the exams for the truck and licence? And be qualified? I agree with jeffswede though, that good climbers that get along with the crew are a lot harder to find than a truck driver. I find it quite odd he wasn't willing to bend a bit for the 2-3 months necessary for you to qualify. And that said, makes me think he would have been stubborn on a number of other issues, that never surfaced because you weren't there long enough. So, as long as you didn't tell your Hawaiian clients you were leaving for good, you should still be able to get work, and support yourself. And at least you are among friends, family and familiar surroundings -- and look at the bright side -- no snow. Maybe the next purchase should be one of those small aerial platforms to help with the palm work. Fortunately for me, palms don't grow tall in Canada. Hope things work out for you at home.
