Default Australian Planting Standards

Here in the US we have ANSI standards on planting trees. Very useful to show landscapers the how-to that their org signs off on;

Arborists should have the ANSI standard in hand when they talk to growers and landscape architects and landscapers about deep planting. When these professionals see with their own eyes that the American Nursery and Landscape Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects are represented in ANSI, they will realize that they don?t have a stem to stand on when they bury trees. The entire green industry agrees that we should always be able to find the trunk flare.

Are there any Australian Planting Standards?

Guy there really is not, in fact the states don't even have any clear standards in this regard (as far as I'm aware) Here is a link to a paper delivered by Judy Fakes back in 2005, very little has altered since then.

Curently we have to rely on the ANSI standards ourselves as current international best practice.

So how do oz practitioners access ANSI standards, buy them? or rely on the ISA BMP's?

Thanks much for the Fakes link; I'll attribute this for the article: "The outcome of planting must be that the top of the root ball, or better, the root-crown, must be level with the finished level of the soil forever!"

eric that was a waste of time. If Graham is God's gift to gardening, I'd hate to see what the devil conjures up.

**Fearing which, any idea if this effort will get root crowns to grade? What is the level of training that the planters of all these 1.6 million trees?

I'm quessing both, as I know you're aware there is a little resisitance to adopting things not Australian, so it can prove frustrating at times but larger clients big companies and LGA's do have an understanding and often written policies relating to BMPs and benchmarking so having access to the ANSI standards is an advantage...as well as being the minimum that we should be working to in anycase!
