If you look around this site, there is a definite emphasis on training and further education in the field of tree care and maintenance. on most posts you will see the words "get in a professional arborist to asses the tree" ect. Trolls spend their time winding people up and we often bite but we all live and learn so lets leave it at that. Take a look at post #9 onwards they all state to get training don't touch that job you have no experience. Ekka was helping out someone who he thought was starting out trimming the odd shrub ect but once it went further it changed to get training let the pros do it. The advice given out on here is not law it's just that, advice and can be taken or not, i think the advice on here comes accross as balanced and informative. There will be the odd indiscretion, thats true, but that can be expected on a site where this many people come together and it is hard to tell exactly what people mean by some words on a screen, things can get misread/ misinterpreted but there is a good balance of people to put things right if anyone gets it wrong. ![]() and im probably going to get a roasting for biting here but there goes.

yeah seek a profesional does pop up a lot, just hope that antons ok if he is i hope he has been bitten by the tree bug and got himself qualified. we all look at past adventures and think ishould have this this or needed that but as long as we get through it we learn.exsperience is everything but you need to do it to get it just gets a little anoying when you see some major hacks working in your area . | |

i joined just as aerial was in his throes of ice axe climbing and bull***t but i didn't know about the telegraph pole, jeeez that takes it to a whole new level of F***k up. Yes we all deal with hacks in our day to day life, i had a gypsy tree bloke 22stone fat barstuard come past me today while parked at some traffic lights i was taking my kids to swim club, he stopped, hung out of his window swore alot and spat at the truck then more insults and drove off to the gypsy site these are the hack i deal with daily not trained, dont care, uninsured, fly tippers.

Local auth is my bread and butter esp winter this week though ive got a willow for powerline clearance then, church yard and cemetery tidy 30 trees from 25 ft to 100ft. crown raises, thinning out, NO TOPPING. trying out a new labourer steady week. I know what your saying about conifers i hate them sticky, itchy chipper clogging dusty things that every one wants topping to half their height, a counterpart of mine has done six months with 99% conifer jobs and a couple of willows hes going stir crazy.

started 1996 built up a franchise for family, left due to a difference in opinion, started on my own attended a few courses, worked wth different companies as a subby and learned more from a park arborist, tried climbing and found i loved it, attended some more courses, worked on fruit trees first then worked my way up, i used to get other climbers in and quiz the hell out of them.(they loved that )courses, worked, courses, worked read books ran teams for people and got here now. been seriously climbing for 6/7 years i sub climb for 5 different companies thats what this willow is, i love big awkward dismantles it keeps the grey matter healthy. insurance companies are great to work with, but you have to build the relationship with them, its hard but well worth it if you want a good rep and long term work.you can grow big on that work

![]() I know that your queries have been replied to already but I thought I would throw in my moneys worth... From what I've noticed over my time in this community, we all deal with hacks everyday(one way or another), we all speak very low of hacks and we all hate them the same. But when one does come on here and post and start threads, I guess the members just want to help them out and help them to become better and efficient qualified/certified tree workers (I know that's my natural stance when they come posting on here). Ultimately from attempting that we are trying to raise our own standards by getting everyone on the same playing field. Get everyone on the same playing field and you get the correct prices that you quote for jobs, no unqualified uninsured low ballers, insurance premiums will go down and the consumer will understand and listen to you as an Arborist because they don't have any hacks murking the waters for them. As for Anton, he was a troll (trouble maker on the internet). Took us on a ride and he got perma banned for it.
