Default Another tree worker dies

See the story at :

Falling tree causes tree cutter's death | lohud.com | The Journal News

It's depressing that so many people doing tree work die each year because they simply don't know what they're doing.

I honestly think it's more depressing that so many trees die each year because tree workers don't know what they are doing.

You may be right. sincerely my condolences go out to all family members of tragedies like this but if we look at stats like car wrecks v shark attacks etc many more trees die from humans than vice versa.

Granted, the guy didn't know what he was doing..

But it's still pretty F*cked up that you guys are going on about tree's rights and fighting back and such.

If you value tree's lives over humans, you've gone too far. Why don't you just commit suicide at the base of a tree and give it some nutrients if you feel that way?

The Journal News • April 12, 2008

YORKTOWN -A 35-year-old tree cutter died today from head injuries he sustained when his hand got caught in a rope tied to a falling tree and he was pulled head first into a nearby standing tree.

Yorktown Police said Manuel J. Villeda, a Mount Kisco resident, was hurt during the accident and died after he was transported to Hudson Valley Hospital.

Villeda was standing on the ground, keeping tension on a guide rope tied to the tree that was being taken down, police said. When the cut tree started to fall, Villeda apparently got his glove caught in the rope and the force of the tree's weight crashing down drove him into the second tree.

Police said he wasn't wearing any protective head gear and was unconscious and bleeding when they arrived at the Heights Drive home. The homeowner was there at the time.

Villeda worked for a tree care company that doesn't have a name, police said.

Reach Greg Clary at 914-696-8566 or gclary@lohud.com.
Maybe now some of those dumb groundies will understand why you dont wrap your hands in the rope.

Sorry some-one died, shame, but the solution is so simple it's astounding.

Think about it, over here some publications and orgs are on some safety crusade ... never have I seen such a bunch of "volunteers" want to wind themselves up in so much red tape.

Tell me, do the electricians need to

1/ Educate the customer as to what is and isn't safe?
2/ Educate their own tradesmen as to what the dangers are?

Of course not, the answer is so simple, you can only do electrical work when you are qualified and licenced. That there is your and the publics safety.

But the tree industry is so full of geniuses who think that voluntary red tape strangulation will actually do something.

Pigs arse it will, coz home-owner Joe still gets a choice of $300 vs $3000. And it's not illegal for $300 to operate either regardless of what some desk jockey may think.

There was no mention of value. I will state as I have in other posts trees can live fine without us but we cannot live without them. So if you indeed have such high regard for human life it might pay to consider there will be none if trees are not cared for more effectively. My comments above were about stats not values. More trees die at the hands of humans than the other way around. If you would like to talk about value then globally we place the cost of human life at 2.6 million dollars AU if we got into tree valuation and then how many you have cut down at some point you will have committed in real human terms what is equivalent to MURDER.

WTF?? It never even stated whether the tree was dead or not!!! What if it was dead already? You tree huggers are SOOOOO ready to just jump on every little picking situation you think you can squeeze an ounce of tree-pity out of.
How can you even compare human lives to trees??? If you're opposed to the taking of lives, why aren't you complaining about every cow that's slaughtered? Oh...right, because ya like eating beef. It's so hypocritical.

How many of ya live in houses built from wood? But everytime one comes down, ya gotta point the finger and complain and make an issue out of it.

Ya know why you can't put a value on human life? Because its priceless.

Any one human could go and plant a thousand trees. They're provide essentials we need, but they're here for us to USE.

Are you so pitifull that your first response isn't thoughts of condolences to the family who just lost a dad or son? Or a wife who just lost a husband??
But Noooooo, its "oh poor trees".... what's wrong with you people?

Therrin you can put a value on human life and they do. you can put a value on everything. I did not know this guy any better than I know any one of a million people who die on a daily basis. I gave condolences and they are sincere. If it suits you guys to live in a ridiculous judao christian world where you feel god has ordained you with some sense of superiority over other living things that is quite up to you. All living things are here for the benefit of others there is no heirarchy in nature everything is cyclical even in the food chain. My posts above were merely pointing out that on average men kill millions of trees a year and they may kill 15 of us and half of those the trees don't kill it is us killing ourselves through oversight or lack of knowledge. Yes you are right we have the capabilities of planting hundreds of trees but we don't not on average. Trees that are specifically planted for use I have no qualms with. It is the destruction of habitat and vegetation with only the human interest in mind that I have a dilemma with. You can argue till you are blue in the teeth but with 6.5 billion ppl on the planet and growing methinks you may have to reconsider your stance on the value of human life.

As in this incident, it was people cutting the tree.

Or like New Farm park here and the Redland Shire's failed poinciana ...poor care.

There was a group of people out who believe that the world will hit zero population growth around 2030.

But you'll also find other forecasts of it just going up and up.

However, we are in the lucky country and need more population and the govt throws $5k baby bonus at you in a lump sum, reduces your taxes too as well as other benefits.

GO FORTH AND BREED THOU AUSSIES

But NG, thats for ME to decide, because it's my life =)

And beside, if I negate the risk, I'm really not putting my life in harms way.
