Default Animal Rescue + Trees, do we consider the tree?

Well I just finished watching RSPCA Animal Rescue (Channel 7, 7:30pm Weds).... One of the rescues on their was the rescue of a crow.

A True Blue Tree Service (Situated in QLD) was the company that performed the rescue. (A True Blue Tree Service) - Only Internet linky they have.

Well as it went, they were called out for a rescue for a crow that got its feet tangled up in the nest on some twine and was dangling upside down. The tree (Euc. spp.) was over 30 metres tall... As the show called them: The Treeloppers turned up and went up this tree in gaffs, no ppe and also when they cut down the branch he one handed his 200.

The main point i'm getting at is he gaffed up the tree for an animal.. I know in the instance of a human rescue we don't consider the tree, but what is the legislation for a crow/animal?

And at the end of the show, they were such "good blokes" and rescued the crow for free. I wonder how many hundreds of quotes they're going to get for him gaffing up a tree, cutting one handed with NO PPE. After all that they put the crow down anyway.

I recorded it on my dvd recorder so I'll have the vid' up and going very soon.

We were taught in human rescue spikes are OK of course as speed counts. But you still have PPE!

I never spiked the tree to rescue a r/c Cessna plane, might just be that's how they go about daily work ... you'd think with TV cameras on you you'd go by the book.

A temporary repreive for the Crow,( It was put down within hours)

Shame about not caring for their own safety :eg NO PPE

A sentence for the Tree from all the gaff tears! Fingers crossed the Tree can deal with it.

I made the channel seven news a few years back doing a magpie rescue for the RSPCA.

I did the rescue gaff less though, kinda thought that with a film crew onsite it was imperitive to follow the rules. Seemed stupid not to with the general public (and possibly eagle eyed members of online forums) watching.

They know about the "book" all right. Its just a case of greed, speed and arrogance. Ignorance is not a defence

I have a system (right or wrong), for getting up there quick. set up your normal climbing line but thread through a pulley attached to another line. Throw up a throwbag and line, draw your other line over your now elevated position, and tie off to the 4X4 and get your groundy to drive off. you get one hell of a ride into the tree and get there damn fast in case of a rescue. Descend in the normal fashion.

Something like it. Instead of having the device in the tree, a rope goes up and over a limb/crotch, and you are attached with your normal system (as though it were set when you are at the top of the tree ) to the tail with a pulley backed up with a biner. The other end is then attached to 4X4 ( or kanga ). When all this is set up, your groundy takes off in the 4by.

Couldn't draw a Cat....
You can then descend as normal..

Oh, I see but you get rope burning crotch above.

In my method no rope burning crotch, but in emergency it might be OK to burn crotch.

Hey hey, guess who I spotted on Animal rescue tonight...

They assisted in rescuing a black cat out of a previously topped and bushed up Turpentine. They own their own 18 metre bucket truck and are based in Mt Dandedong... lol.

Ace Tree Management, yas didn't get much of a plug except for the logo on the side door of your bucket truck.

Good stuff aye , Did you make em' pay for the lift, Ace?

I taped it on foxtel IQ, but only started after I saw the logo, nothing else to identify Ace from, from where I started recording. Plus I'd have to figure out how to move the stuff from the foxtel box to the comp

Depending on whose equipment Foxtel are OEM'ing from for their cable box. If it has a firewire port and you have a Mac you can do it.

My cable provider uses the Motorola 6412 which has two firewire ports (one for each tuner). I put a $5 firewire cable between it and my Mac Mini and can record anything I can put on my HDTV to any of the Mini's hard drives.

Work around for Windows: Just put a digital video camera up in front of your TV, darken the room and record it. Use whatever Windows software works best for you to import it to your hard drive.

Upload it to U-tube and we all watch!
