Default For All the New Guys

Hey Guys, Welcome to Tree World.
I'm Thom_B. I am new to Tree World, but I have been around the "old way" of Arborculture for a while. I say the old way because the company I worked for was into removals so we climbed with spikes.
I just moved to North West Ohio from the U.P. of Michigan. I am interested in learning about the SRT and DrT of acending trees. I wanted to start a thread that basically would be a forum for people like me who are do not have much knowledge on rope climbing (for the newer members) so we have a place to exchange information that is [B]All Under One Thread so that we can have a quick reference that is centeralized. This may already exist, but to me it seems that most to the excellent information that is out there is spread out throughout the site. Help me start a new one, that is easier to find. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thom

Default Looking For A New Chainsaw

So I'm looking for a new chain-saw. I am avoiding any Poulan models because they have so many problems: the stall constantly, they do not expell the shavings from the cut which ends up bogging the engine down, and finally they are hideious looking.
Here are some of the models that I am looking at let me know what you think if you have the time: Echo CS-330T, or a Stihl MS 192- CE or MS-200-T I am open to any suggestions if someone knows of a better saw available in/or near Toledo, Ohio...

Stay away from the 192t saw. That is a piece of garbage compared to the 200t. There is a reason the 200t is almost $200 more than the 192t.Thats because its 200% better. However , the husqvarna 338xpt is a hell of of a saw as well. But ,its around $500, an economical choice to start out with , would be a Jonsered CS2139T. Its the same saw as the 338xpt, but its red instead of orange and its around $400. You get what you pay for obviously. Good luck, and keep on spuring the takedowns and removals.

The 192's arent that bad, they are good for pruning but I would take the 200 over it anyday. Not sure about the Husqi's, never used one before but I wouldnt mind.

200T hands down mate... Good all round saw and plenty of guts to get through the bigger wood especially if your doing a lot a take downs...

I have worked with the 192 as well but lacks that extra power when chunking bigger timber out...

Suppose it depends also on the main use..

Default In the Echo department

I figured that the 200 T is the better saw out of the Stihl's, however it is more expensive and since I am trying to start my own business from scratch. I am not sure that I can afford to spend that much to start out, does anyone have any experience with Echo's 330's or any other top control units.

I can understand the predicament you are in Thom B and we have all been there...

IMO, although it is more expensive the 200T will be a good all round saw for a lot of the work you will do..it is in my case...you can always chuck on a 14" bar as well and still have the grunt...

I tend to use my 200T for a hell of a lot of my work and then go straight to a larger saw for the large stuff..(which means I dont need that midrange saw!)

Do yourself a favour and pay the extra $200 dollars...you wont regret it...

Even see if you can try out a 192 and a 200 and get a feel for the power difference..it is quite noticable..

Oh yeah and I forgot... I used to have the full range of Huski's and after a couple of years I changed to Stihl and have never looked back..

I had no end of troubles with the top handled huski's
