I dare say it's the stump removal that's costing a bomb.... then again, could be council workers doing the job and you know what that means.

They've decided only one will go ... this one on the eastern side, apparently only half a tree but still a full price of $70,000. Camphor compromise - Local News - News - General - Bellingen Courier Sun Quote:

I have heard debates from engineers about soil subsidence when a large root system rots away. A big camphor like that is gonna have a decent root system. In my experience big roots will be down 1m+, but I think cutting them off just beyond back of kerb and calling it a day is sufficient. The stump might have to be removed because if it was stump ground and paved over .... in 20 years time the road will sink.

good answer, but in my experience engineers tend to go for a bit of overkill. I agree with the stump removal for subsidense issues for the paved area, it happens, get a job done once is always best policy. I wonder what the master plan is for the site. Don't get me wrong, I do not have a pet hate for engineers, I have an engineer in my family, come to think of it, he's a know it all too but I care about him. I just got so frustrated with the ones on Council, who do you think fixed up their mistakes in the field, and I currently deal with a retired one now whom is giving everyone grief. That is still a hefty amount for a tree removal. Shame Camphor Laurel is such a bad weed, I always liked their form. |
