Whitey, Sorry you lost a mate...

Can you enlighten us then as to how you think it may have happened?

I don't think anyone here is being a "wank" about it, we are just discussing it to try to learn from it. Unfortunately, this is often how safety standards are improved, analysing & learning from others misfortunes.

Are you saying another crew started the same tree the day before and also had an accident?

I hope the cursed pine gets finished off without any more injuries.

I'll start by appoligising for calling you all wanks. There was an accident in the same tree the day before a fella was injured with a chainsaw but apparently the boss of the company didn't report it because he needed the tree down, makes you wonder if the company has been in the shit before. No i wasn,t there but i have spoken with one of the crew members who said he was logging off at the time had un clipped, clipped back on moved to the other side of the trunk to push log just cut thats when it happened. I know this fella to well having climbed with him to know he would not have unclipped his pole strap logging off would have cut stabs clear the fella i was talking to said it took 20mins for help to arrive his comment was if in that time if i could have covered it up i would have, cover what up thats what i'd like to know the crew i belive isn't telling the truth, i agree that this tree could have been easily dropped in one i know my mate would have if it had have been his choice but not been in charge not his say. The tree was a baby compared to some of the stuff we did in the dandenongs will keep u all posted when i know more

Thanks, that's what I was hoping for a few posts back.

So when he pushed that log off he would have had max force on his pole belt .... I think it's reasonably clear then that we agree he only had 1 attachment point as the chances of 2 pole belts failing or any other 2 tie in combo failing is very remote. However you mentioned he unclipped then reclipped, so was he free climbing or simply didn't have 2 attachments for the log push?

I think he maybe didn't have 2 attachments for the log push knowing ... "I'll just shove this off in a jiffy and have to reposition anyway, no big deal I'm not chainsawing." Acceptable I think, we dont always have 2 attachment points when maneuvering in a tree do we.

So either the pole belt, the clip or the harness failed.

Also see if you can find put why they didn't just fell the bloody tree.... must be a reason for 2 climbers having a go at it, dang tree's possessed or something, burn the mother down!

Just an observation - another climber appears to have been in this tree and cut limbs in the previous 12 months or so - cuts on tree have different ages unless I'm wrong.

RIP to your mate WHITEY, we all feel for his family and friends.

Yeah, I'd say old pruning cuts for road clearance.
