I often get asked, what happens when palms get old? Errr, not a lot, they just get tall and live. These are in Brisbane City Botanical gardens, planted 1884, and not in the best spot with lawn. They're tall but still full heads with plenty of the usual crap sticking out. ![]()

Maybe it is the picture not doing its justice, but those palms look pretty short for some 100+ years old... We've got some great trees in our Sydney botanical gardens too. *Cough* Philinsydney... Including dirty ass cocos palms too :P Thanks

The size and age of these trees are impressive. It must have taken Sydney siders another century to catch on to this species. Their was a real trend during the 1980's to plant this species (prolific, particularly around pools) and the trend followed during the 1990's to take them out. They kept me well employed! |

I hate doing them, but they're everywhere. How much are they charging to tip them over your way? $145 a tonne, at the closest here, $135 or $90 if I drive 1/2 hour each way. Nice truck, what type of V2 is that? |

I was a utility arb for 12 years, however I hung up my leg irons 7 years ago, and only consult and teach now. Don't know what the tipping fee is, but I sure don't miss them Cocus Palms. Now I remove them with my pen, much easier. The truck isn,t as old as it looks, it has 4 on the tree! |

I say about the only houses that dont have them here are the ones where they were cut down. Still prolific, and commonly planted in the worst spots where there's no room to swing a cat.

Done it, tip fees for palms START at $145/tonne near me (Sutherland). Its crazy and makes you start to think of attempting to chip them again??? The problem is near the tips are lots of illegal dumping from undercutting door knockers....... ooooh, dont get me started!!!! |

"No!", I hear you say. "It can't be true!" But it is! I'll post them shortly. I suppose this is not the best moment to admit that I'm a subscriber to PalmTalk. | |
