| ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's coming down tomorrow, may be able to get some shots of it being torn down by the climber. The lower 'rungs' have been eaten away by rot, or termites, and the nails have long since rusted away. They appear fine further up. May have been put in via Nail Gun after being tied on (rope or strap marks on bark, nothing left but one strap in another position in pic #4). The third shot is the back of the tree (as opposed to the other three shots) and is the lower rungs. You can see one missing at the bottom of the frame. There is also a pulley system set up on the platform. Estimated height is 15 metres. There are three transitions from back to front, to fork, and to platform that look very sketchy (you can see them in pic #2) Last edited by Eric Frei; 20th May 2010 at 08:59 AM. Sigh, just saw the rules about external links. What an odd rule. Resizing and reducing filesize now. |

Can't edit either so forgive the run of posts. I love inflating post counts. Pictures below, in the same order (fingers crossed) so I don't need to repeat myself. |

I wouldn't climb a ladder setup like that, let alone allowing kids to! Much better a nice Oak or an Ash with lots of branches for kids to climb. |

Thanks. I understand why it's that way, it's just odd to me because it's different to any other forum that I've been on. I assume bandwidth/space reasons for most. Also thanks for editing my first post. |

Whole tree? We have a running joke about that. I've heard of a job on the cards about a tree being removed because the birds are defecating everywhere, and it's 'unhygienic'. But only if you are licking the ground, I assume. |

Well, if it's bats then people worry, I see some more cases of Hendra virus in the news .... deadly and came from bats. When bats roost in trees

Informative, but not bats. I'm reasonably sure it's an afternoon/evening Lorikeet gathering. Plus, I skimmed the links, but is there a connection between Bats > Hendra (never heard of it), or Bats > Horses > Hendra? From what I gather they are setting up video cameras on a property to see how the horses are infected from the bats. Not my area of interest, or expertise... |

| Thanks, random stranger. I'm happy for you that you didn't get to see the pics of the fat bludger that climbed the tree to remove it. Painful to watch... Sweat lashing from every pore, melted chocolate dripping from some unseen pocket, rope taut from the great weight, tree limbs cracking and groaning, sloth-like speed and movement (and the propensity to sleep on a whim whilst hanging from branch), rolls where there shouldn't be rolls spilling over every inch of harness, breathing laboured and hoarse, pansy swinging action of equipped tools etc. Oh, and the constant complaining. Other than that, a nice guy. |

Hah! I'd rather have my kids climb it than having me climb it. They're LIGHTER! (or... they will be. Should be. Dammit they'd better be) Quote:
