Howdy! Thought I'd post some great pics that I've had the privledge to have taken (of myself) in the last 2 weeks. 02/24/09 - First Crush Incident A 5' diameter slice of pine round 20" thick fell off my tailgate and landed on my right foot. (350lbs) Crushed my right big toe. Required surgery... they removed the nail, stitched up the gash in the nail bed and re-glued the nail back on. The pic was taken at doc's office, the brown stuff is betadine. ![]() 03/08/09 - Second Crush Incident Yes, that's right, just 13 days later..... Was moving a concrete filled construction block (45lbs), lost my grip and dropped it on the SAME TOE!!!! (wasn't wearing boots at the time because they "hurt too much to wear after the first accident") Surgery was much the same, except this time they had to cut the old stitch out cuz it was smashed into the rest of the pulp of the nail bed, and they decided not to re-stitch it cuz there wasnt much left to stitch together afterwards. ![]() WEAR BOOTS, WITH STEEL OR POLYMER TOE CAPS, ALWAYS!!!! |

little kiss with ms200t. this cut was on my left fore-arm, it was winter so i had lots of shirts on. thank my lucky stars it was just a flesh wound and i was ok. ![]() this happened while topping a Bradford pear. i was working at an apartment complex and there was a parked car in the way which we could not get moved i was one handing the saw and tossing limbs with the other, when i tipped my bar down the bar tip hit another limb kicking the saw chain up onto my under arm, finished tossing the limb rapped down and went to a little emergency clinic to get stitched up. went back and the car was moved so finished the tree and took it easy for the rest of the day.

Gonna double thread here for a sec but bear with me. Newguy, it's things like this that are a reality in tree work, with all the good intentions in the world a mistake can still happen, usually for a reason, granted, thats why i dont call them accidents. But this is the sort of situation where instead of a forearm it could be your rope flipline ![]() And instead of a small bradford pear it could be 50' up an oak byebyeThen you will be like this on your back, but you aint laughin, youre screamin...![]() Do this work long enough and something will one day turn out different than you though it would in your head a moment before hand. This is where the choice to increase your safety margin with something like steel core vs rope flip will one day pay off. Back to topic. WLL, some good discussion in this thread on One Handed Chainsawing from a while back. |

ARGH!!!!!! I just broke my damn finger! Ring finger...left hand. We were demo'ing a stage (demolishing, not trying it out) and I was underneath pushing a big pipe upward. The guy above lost his grip and it fell down and smashed my hand... fractured the bone between the first and second joints. ![]() I've decided to not leave my room anymore cuz the world is too dangerous. Typing has become difficult. I'd read a book but I might screw it up and hurt myself. |
