Good pictures of a profesional operation. Some of the parts your groundman caught were quite heavy, did he get smoke of his gloves???
Nice stumpgrinder!!

Nice pics.

What's up with them eucs, whacko canopies!

That top you rigged off, how much you reckon it weighed?

Willem, I guess only or under 250kg, tops 2 wraps, 3 would be a lock up and one would be smoking the gloves.

That top Eric I think may weigh bout 250 to 500 kg but in saying that , the top was pretty dead from wind blown so it may be less, that lowering device is a home made job but it works awesome, we had some big heavy limbs on that thing with no worrys. You can wrap the rope round bout 2 time and hold with one hand easy without any smokin going on

Yeah, I was thinking half dead, dry wood and little foliage = lighter.

Knowing the amount of wraps for various devices comes easily, with taking tops off you want them to run, over wrapping is how most tops dont run and clobber the climber. I'd rather have decent gloves on, decent footing and take the right or just under right amount of wraps so a run can take place.

I also stand back so I'm never under the load, and between me and the lowering device the lowering rope sags so it's just off the ground meaning some slack for a run.

With most tops you can near crash them into the ground a bit and hold the butt up. The tips of the cut section are usually softer (leafy) and thin sticks etc so why not.

In most cases, the groundy usually over wraps, things look a lot bigger and worse from the ground than they really are.

That one was well done, and I would say to all rope guys wear decent gloves as a good run on the rope can burn you, not so much the weight but the speed the rope will fly.

Nice work Phill, mmm gotta love a good Euc take down!

Did the customer want the firewood or did you guys end up carting it away?

Seldom do we cut pieces that small as we can leave them as big as we can load them (trolley & ramps) for our firewood dealer to cut up in his time all is kewl though if you guys sell your wood.

we had to take all the wood away but that ok as we split the wood up our self on a rainy day when we can't get out to do work, that way our boys got some firewood to take home or we sell it

Sweet You guys use the block splitter mauls or hydraulic? We use the maul at home, fiber glass handle as the bloody guarenteed 5 years wooden handle doesn't even go 5 weeks! Took it back to the hardware store and they tried telling me it was only for the head, yet there wasn't even fine print stating that bs. All in all we both compromised and I got store discount...

Just on our last job, the customer wanted the firewood from the blackbutts, so we cut it to size and god damn did I want to take it home once it was cut! Bright yellow/orangeish sapwood, dark brown/purple heartwood (insert drooling emoticon here)

Goog job Phil. Nice location too, is that a lake or river in the background?

Also, is that a home made device? If so can you tell us a little about it
