Nice Oaks...

I'm just finishing up a removal on a Quercus chrysolepis, affectionately known as a Heritage oak around here. Makin a good bit on turn around with the wood. It's "well seasoned" ;-) (what the rest of us call "dead")

Noticed that if you inhale much of the bark powder sent up by that dead bark, it'll have you coughin like mad. Makes it feel like someones squeezing your chest and makes you salivate... Nasty stuff.
I'm certain to wear a dust mask when I finish it off tomorow.

Ever encountered anything like that? Parts of it were rotten so I wasn't sure if the junk had fungus on it. Sounded icky, thought I'd not breathe anymore of it

Breathing in any fine particulate matter is not good for you and the simple mask is a good idea for sure...Oddly enough many years back when chasing data on puff balls Lycoperdon genus I found this:

Quote:
The spores in the lungs can cause respiratory distress & even germinate as far as the hypae stage, fortunately treatable with fungicidal medication. Also, if they are eaten once they begin to reach the spore stage, they can be very mildly poisonous. The additional child belief that getting spores in your eyes causes blindness is untrue, but it wouldn't be very comfortable either.
and

Quote:
An incident from Wisconsin involved kids breathing so many spores so deeply that they indeed germinated in the lungs, requiring hospitalization.
Not a nice thought eh?

Oh, look at that... isn't that just lovely. Pardon me while I go scrub my lungs out with a wire brush and some bleach.

I could get an Advantage 1000 - CBR / RCA Gas Mask... But I'm thinkin that would be kinda overkill. Might scare customers away too. Or even worse... I can see the headlines now, "Terrorist found in tree"

Another option would be to find yourself a very small treeguy with a very small chainsaw and snort him up your left nostril!

Yep over here we normally get that problem from the dust coming off London planes, sticks to the back of your throat, horrible

Mmmm, yeah, looked like about an easy 1 day job with a bucket or 1 big day to 1.5 climbing. But it did look like they are loading branches on a big trailer, not chipping, thats where all the time goes.

Keep plugging away, hope theres some profit in it for ya
