Bill the "rules" (if you like) have to be written to encompass a very broad skill set from the person who is just starting out with very little experience or practical understanding to someone like treevet with years of practical experience and understanding of the complex forces we impart to trees when we dismantle or rig off them. It is possible in unique circumstances to complete a written risk assessment in order to undertake works that are not covered by or exempted by the regs. It is really best to have OH&S accept your assessment before you do the work but I accept this is rarely going to happen. I jave climbed and dismantled apartially wind thrown Eucs in the south with just the set up described, for others reading who have not used it take your time the first time you climb with tyrolean style high point since the dynamics of your life line are very different to what you would used to (that is if the floating point is being used for stability). The best part of the set up IMO is the confidence it gives the climber on what would otherwise be a very tense job. |

I've some experience with tyroleans, and I don't think it's a setup for unexperienced climbers to attempt except under very controlled circumstances for their first few times. Your opposing anchor points have to be VERY sturdy (bomb-proof), as loading the line between them can exert around 5 times as much force at the anchors. Forces involved in a "slingshot" effect could very well bust-out an anchor that would hold an otherwise minimal fall which has very little take up of slack. It's a good method to add to the "bag o' tricks", but not one that I'd employ in the trees at that location. A MUCH safer alternative would have been finding a TIP above and behind in one of the other pines, but the situation didn't easily present itself. Tyro's are used for all sorts of niffty stuff. |

I climbed a water oak that had not only a bad case of heart rot but root issues as well.To top it off it was also at aproximately a 50 degree lean and full of suckers.I went with my better judgement and hooked a pull rope and climbed down and felled it.In the process of falling it collapsed one side of the stump and hung up in another tree.I'd hate to think what would have happened if i stayed up and wrecked it out.

Um, here's a big fallen tree that I got a pic in front of on my trip up through the Sierras. ![]() And, here's one that I snuck over and got a picture at the base of... I think it's General Sherman. ![]() And... hmm, explain how this one works maybe? Hahahaha.... ![]() Oh yeah I forgot to mention, that last picture is still a very ALIVE and well tree. Doing just nicely, and maybe close to 200 ft tall. |

Some more random pics from my backpacking trip. The first is of the lake that we hiked up to called Spotted Lake. (actually Lower Spotted), you can see Red Top peak in the background that I scaled the second day there, I went up the ridge on the right on hit the top, then swung over the ridge on the left. They said when I yelled from the top I was a tiny red dot. (I was wearing a red shirt) The next Pic is looking DOWN at Lower Spotted, from the summit of Red Top. And then there's a dorky picture of me smiling while orienteering, sans trail. ![]() ![]() |

Great pictures. ![]() Those lakes must be up at some altitude by the looks, doubt there'd be any fish in there but looks like it'd be pristine drinking water if you're running low? Looks cold to but ya only got a Tshirt on so must be OK, was the water cold?

Not so cold that when I found a small lake that wasn't on the map I was still able to shuck my clothes off and go swimming in it. And there's LOTS of fish. Both Lower Spotted, Upper Spotted, and Upper Chain lakes have lots and lots of fish in them. They were stocked at some point, by helicopter. ![]() But almost noone ever goes there because you have to use map and compass to find the place, its about 5 MILES off the main trail that goes through that area. So its very pristine, clean, clear, untouched pretty much. But still TONS of fish. In the first couple hours that we started fishing the next day after we got there, the 6 of us caught 20 some odd fish. We ate fish cooked over a campfire every night along with our normal meals. Oh, I suppose you could just drink the water there.... but I filter everything with a Katadyn Hiker waterfilter. It goes down to .3 microns. Exceptional filtration as well as light weight. |

Now those are some superb pictures! Crystal clear with SO MUCH detail! What kind of camera took them? Any chance you'd have to worry about bears in those locations?

Some were taken with a cell phone, believe it or not, and the others with my friends cheap digital camera. It's not difficult to take a breathtaking photo with a crappy camera when the landscape makes up for it in spades. We used bearboxes for our food supply but only set them on the ground about 20 paces away from our tents and campsite.... the bears typically go for areas where the food is easy to obtain, such as the large campsites and cabin locations where there are lots of people who leave food lying around. In the areas we traveled, way out in the wilderness, there is very little bear trouble. You can practically leave food lying about and they won't bother you because there are easier pickings elsewhere. |

Just some random photos we've taken lately. The first one is my g/f, me, and her friend. We went to a hookah lounge down in Los Angeles and we were just relaxing. Then there are some pictures from when she and I went camping. We also did some shooting while we were up there, and it was so foggy that I decided to light off some smoke grenades since at that point noone would notice. You can see my thigh-rig in that photo too. We had alot of fun up there. The last photo is Maria's halloween outfit we went to a big rave together on halloween and it was a dress-up event. She figured that since she's in the Nursing program at UCLA that she should probably be a nurse. I'm thinking it was a good choice =)![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah JayD I should send her your way so she can get you all fixed up. It's funny, when I was little my mom would kiss stuff but it hardly ever made it all better. Maria is just SO much better at that ![]() She had these white stockings and white shoes with red crosses on the front that completed the ensemble. It was really pretty cute. I didnt really dress up. Black leather pants, black leather shoes, a big black clubbing shirt, and a black leather belt. Something akin to death warmed-over. Oh! I did wear this peruvian hand made goathair beanie with ear flaps though. I was pretty hip looking. She was just HOT =) |

my signature pic on my CS:S gaming forum. I'm "Therrin the Gimp" so they managed to get me hunched over with my bad knee, and I always use a p90. Not a bad sig. I never understood how those guys do those things. |

| P90 is the ultimate gun in source, it causes just as much rage as the auto I find.

It sure is my favorite. People bitch more about the auto and the awp. They tend to call the p90 a "spray and pray" gun, but I have over 2,400 logged kills with it. It's an effective weapon when you game with a trackball You ever play CSS? maybe you could come check out my server. I'm on the admin management team at NoobFusion. (ie, I pick new admins, raise other admins up through the admin ranks, train admins, etc) Full root server and forum access. I'm like the go-to guy over there. Given more bans than any other admin. Love my server... Its a no hacking/no racism strictly enforced west-coast server. Here's the IP. 98.143.146.29:27015 |

I always sauce since Battlefield 2 died in the ass oH so long ago, its my only real FPS I play online, but Insurgency is making its way up. I dont dare venture into overseas servers, the normal rage production of CSS is enough without the extra ping added in.

We have folks regularly connecting into our server from Australia, NZ, Japan, korea, veitnam, belgium, and other places. as long as their pings stays at, or lower than 180 its all good. It usually isnt a problem. AND, if its someone we knonw and like, we slide them an exception. I've also got Battlefield 2, and just got COD:4 Lemme know if somethin works for ya. I'd really love to see a fellow TW member in-game some day. |
