here are a few photos of a crane job removing a gum, we got Mushi up there doing the cutting, we use a 25t crane , owner only wanted some of the wood and the rest we got taken away on a truck with a hiab , job took 4 and a half hours. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Therrin; 22nd April 2009 at 11:03 AM. Hey Phil, if you're doing what, a crane job every week you may as well buy your own crane. Have you seen the rigs a couple of guys in the states are using? Allmark & Mike Poors cranes are awesome.

Why do you need a bigger chipper dont you keep everything to sell for fire wood?

Do you always use chains for rigging? My arms would give out trying to flip a big chain around the tree. Great shots.

I don't understand why people say that using chains is to heavy when it is the crane that holding the weigh not the climber, all we need to do is just hook it on, not beening a hero or anything but we never get buggered using the chains

Usually when I'm taking a big chunk of trunk, I like to hook a choker or strap comming off each side so the wood comes off without tilting and shaking the crane. By the time I'm to this point I'm getting a little tired so having to swing around and wrap chains sound a little tough. Then when I go to hook the second strap or choker, the first one tends to slide down a bit and I have to readjust. All that wears me out. I thought it was the crane company choosing chains. Some of ours prefer chokers, some prefer straps. I like the straps because the chokers always end up with a few sharp strands of cable that cut up the hands and over time some get kind of twisted. Anyway looks like it works well for you, I was just curious because I don't see chains used in tree rigging over here and have never tried them. Sometimes the straps feel heavy to me. |
