Default Terravent injections

Just a couple of pictures of some of our lads undertaking Terravent operations on a large English Oak. The rizosphere had been used as a cap park for years and caused soil compaction.
The terravent injects air into the rizosphere to relieve the compaction allowing gaseous diffusion in the soil horizons once again.
This equipment can also inject nutrients and mycorriza to give the tree a pick me up! Mycorriza, for those of you who are unaware are nitrogen fixing bacteria which have a symbiotic relationship with a tree.

Nice Job Does that run of an air compressor on the back of your truck? do you add the relevant substance through the compressor end or the gun and user end.
Those caps really compress the ground was it a flat cap park lancashire type sorry just in one of those moods.

Type error! Sorry!

Should be working really but seem to be addicted to this blog!!!

"Relevant substance" lol, is put thru at compressor end and fed to probe where directional holes at differing levels inject into soil.

Anyone would think I was from Yorkshire talking about caps!

Hello Greenman,

Nice pictures. We use the same method a lot. We don't use mychoriza but a mix of nutrients. Whats your idea about the timeperiod in between treatments???
My own experience is that effectivnes varies a lot depending on which kind of soil your working with. On claysoil effects are best, sandy soils less effective

Hello Greenman,

About Mycorriza this isn't a bacteria and it doesn't fix nytrogin. Mycorriza is a fungus that lives in coexcitince with the treeroots. The symbiose enhances the capability of treeroots to take up nutrients.

I also thought that the genus Alnus was able to fix extra nitrogen in the soil. In about the same way as they use plants in agricultare for fertilising. Anyone an idea if this is true and if it involves bacteria or some other symbiose.

I'm also interested in stories about the Mycorriza that is sold in packs. Has anyone good experience with this product???
I'm sceptic of this product, because I think the spores of the fungi are all around us in the air. When you dig a hole to put a tree in spores of the fungi are automaticaly dispursed in to the soil, so why put additional spores in??
In Holland the product is sold and with mixed results used. I'm interested in results from people who used the product.
Greenman you are positive about the results, why and which mycorriza product do you use. And is it only mycorriza or are their additional fertilizers in this product.
Maybe a good new thread Ekka??
