We were sent to clean up this big leaf maple in a park with walking trails. one stem had fallen over one trail, and took out, aprox 6 other trees alders, doug firs, a birch and a dead cedar, all kinda small ones. the other stem had hung up in a decent Doug fir, and was pushing on it prity hard, both trees were in close proximity to houses maby 3/4 fall zone on the maple, and 1/2 on the fir, any how i had a prity good drop area for most of the branches, so no rigging required. up i went, single line rope walk up the next door maple tree, and swing / branch walk out to the fir, were i see clearly that the stem had croched up or the forks were resting either side of the fir tree. so a plan forms, and im off first, cut all the foliage off and then carefully remove most of the stubs, leaving the main 2 forks resting on the fir, then i tie in a second climbing line up in the fir to help with position and a steel core wraped around the fir too. i tied off the forks the the fir with a sling and a bina, (so i could control were it went) then i cut a wide notch in the top of the maple directed slightly away from me ( this also helped in avoiding hiting the fir and damageing it too). it all went well. it was realy fun we also removed the other 2 stems, too much risk for the city, they were leaning over the trails, and there was enough signs of soft rot for the city guy to have it gone, i called him out to look at it sorry no photos of the hung up stem, it was an emergancy call and we were the first arborists to see the job, so no warning for me to bring in the camera, brought in in the next day tho ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
