Well,I had a few small jobs (chipper service, takedown of small pine after storm) and I got sorta bored afterwards so I began maintaining machinery a bit. I took some pictures so ya'll know what I'm using and have a good laugh at my little van and my new chipper. Compared to usa vans and trucks, mine is small and so is my chipper.

big shea , im not laughing at quercus, i use all stihl gear for my business because it lasts longer than husqvarna in my opinion. The point i was making when i said about the company near me was that they had a group photo taken with all their power tools laid out in front of them and had the vehicles and chippers behind them. By the way i use a willans t22 harness. ![]() penfold |

Most of the time people think my gear is new... It's only well cared for and looked after, and I'm really not hesitating to kick someone in the nuts for throwing my gear around. Imagine what a HO must think when you first have to service your saw for an hour before it will start? I am still waiting on the first time that a machine from stihl doesn't start orrun properly on a jobsite...but everything fails when you don't service it... and yeah, it rotates 360 degrees...Vandaele is the best brand for chippers around here...

quercus, that a great looking setup, a place for everything and everything in it's place. That chipper looks like a great machine for those hard to get to jobs. I do have two questions though, first, where do you put the chips? and secondly (pardon my ignorance) which side of the road do you guys drive on? Opps, one more, what is the capacity of the chipper.......? Thanks Brent |

We drive on the right side...so it's left hand drive. The chipper is brand new actually. Before that we rented one, but had more problems with that than you can imagine... The rentals out here are getting FUBAR in no time by home owners and landscapers who put steel wire, rebar, roofing tiles, bricks and other things in it.They don't respect it because it's not a machine of their own, and therefore it seems OK if you break it... I rent mine out too, with always with an operator. The capacity is 6 inch, but we don't usually chip branches that thick. We cut those up for firewood.Machinery like that is very expensive here. I don't know what you guys are paying for a six inch, but this machine costs around 46.000 USD. We do have a 10 inch too, but that's a co-ownership with a landscaper.

What do all those mistakes have to do with me using screw locking biners? not much, I'm afraid =) I actually *use* the screw-locks on my biners, Newguy. From what I understand, alot of you guys have been required to phase-out your screw-lock biners for triple-lockers and the like. I have both, use both. I just make sure that if I use screw-locks, that I lock them. |

OMG... you've got to be kidding me. I've been using screw-lock biners for YEARS!!! Rock climbing, tree climbing, etc... Are you seriously trying to say that you guys all just up and got rid of your screw lock biners and replaced your entire inventory with triple-lockers because some person in a suit told you to??? That's pure bureacracy on the part of the equipment manufacturers. That's like saying that before triple-lockers came out that everyone who was using screw-locks was being radically unsafe. You're also implying, by default, that I don't screw my biners closed. Otherwise they're PERFECTLY SAFE!! It scares me that you don't think screw-lock biners are safe when used properly. Mmm, which law? And does it apply to me specifically? |

I'm switching this topic to a new thread, it doesn't belong in the "show ya saddles" thread.

Nope doesn't belong here. By law I didn't literally mean that you'll be arrested or fined, more like a really good idea. I have heard of them working loose in the process of trimming and moving around up in a tree. It is in ANSI and probably for a good reason. |
