Default A - One Trees' at work

This was a Liquidambar styraciflua we knocked down today.

This is one of our more higher profiled residual clients. The roots were doing extensive foundation damage; When they were replacing the toilet with the plumping the found 2 inch round roots in there soaking up the water.

Me setting the next rig.

Limb walking to take the branch in two cuts.

Poser

http://www.treeworld.info/attachment...1&d=1175590197

Another limb walk, mind you the branches were about 2 inches in diameter.
Only 6 IMG tags aloud :\

That's my set up at the bottom of the tree hung up for lunch, to the right of the tree that house is on the Heritage list. The small gap between the house and tree was probably about 2-3 metres wide.

Aint' that a beaut' of trim job? Just joking that was one of the last photos of me chunking down the far co-dominent stem.

Behind the camera was my father, he was handling the lowering rope for me and doing a great job while at it (Now i'm going to give him a big head : )

Enjoy and there's many more to come!

The boys at A - One,
JohN Dee & JayD

I wonder why it had 3 leaders like that?

Also, third pic down I think shows you leaving lots of stubs, possible hang ups, but the last pic seems like they were cleaned up .... Not picking on you just wondered what was going on coz we all know it sucks when lowering and the piece gets hung up on a stub.

Good job, tight removal, and no sticky pine resin/sap crap. Those liquid ambers are great to cut, the saw slices thru like butter.

But this time of the year I bet rake up was huge!

Good work JD. Good to see a father & son team working together well like that too.

Did you grind the stump? Those Liq's are mongrel stumps to grind. Double the $$$ of nearly any other stump of the same size i reckon. Like radiata pine.

Lol Sean.
There was plenty of room for a crane, the job complexity didn't warrant the use of a crane and also the money is better in our pocket then the crane company's pocket.

Lol Ekka, you caught me out!

I don't have foot plates at the moment and lately my spurs have been making my arch ache so I left stubs to ease my feet on nice purches, but when we took down a big limb it got hung up on one of the stubs and I had to climb back down to loosen it the limb off .

Where the two closest stems are, they come off a single stem before that. There was enormous pressure inbetween the stems because of the bark ridge in the branch union, the elephant ears were huge even the far one onto the main trunk had alot of pressure with HUGE E.E's.

Alot of customers really love the fact that we are a father and son team looking out for one another. I've noticed that our cultured race (<- Lack of a better word) customers love the father and son more then what the Aussies do. Most customers by the end of the day have made us lunch

We're doing 12 MASSIVE GIRTH Cocos Palm cleans tommorrow before heading back to grind the stump.

Whenever im on a pole on spurs, as well as flipline i set my climbline with VT still attached on a running bowline with a long tail. Allows you to kick out and hang in the harness to give your feet a break, great while getting a refuel etc. Also allows you to descend down say 10 foot sections at a time and retrieve the line and reset rather than climb downwards on spurs. I hate that, most unnatural feeling in a tree for me. Sorry if ya already know what i'm talkin about.

Nothing good can come from leaving stubs , they always come back to haunt you.

Ekka, i think you had a vid clip of this somewhere else???

I got foot plates on one set of my spurs but be aware, they dont fit ALLOY climbers.

Also, take the foot plate with you when buying boots as the boot must have a chunky enough heel to clear the centre of the plate.

In USA and Europe UK etc they buy boots which have a steel plate in the bottom. You wont feel the spurs pushing up at the arch of your feet, also when standing in tight forks the sides of your feet wont be crushed.

I know a climber here who swears by the Stihl boot and buys them from UK as sizes are bout the same where as USA sizes are different. The freight is the killer but he gets together with some other blokes and they split it.

Hey Ekka

I've bought that stihl boots to but I WILL NEVER BUY THEM AGAIN.
If they get wet they don't fit your foot well. At the end of the they
your really happy to that you can put them out.

I got shoes from BATA. They are really good and all safety things included.
Also when you clim whit spurs they clim really good. They stay good en I really like them.
try it if you can get them over there!

Default 3 Dead Trees

This was a job we did last year around september-october.

We originally got a call from a customer wanting us to remove her paperbark tree for her to build her pool, she then told us, that her neighbour accross the road wanted a quote from us to take out her tree, while taking out the neighbours tree the owner of these 3 dead trees from down the road approached us.

We used a Trailer mounted EWP 12 metres in height to remove all 3.

The first tree, I had to climb out onto it to tie the guidance rope as Trailer mounted EWP's can be a HUGE pita.

This was the 2nd tree we took down, my dad was out doing a quote while myself and my groundie took this one down so there were no action shots.

This was the third and last tree over the top of the house. That was my groundie launching the recently cut branch.

Thats the EWP we were using. I think that was the last cut we made from the EWP before we brang it over.

The Image captions say it all ^^

We had the job finished that day so everyone was happy

Good stuff. What do you think of that trailer lift? They're $275 a day here.

Default Sending your child up a dead & dangerous tree!

Hi All,
With this job above with the EWP,There are two main reasons why we got this job,the first is what brought the customers attention to us was we were working in the street...derr..but the second and I think the main reason was he had a Quote from the the travelling door knockers( The Islanders) once John and myself assessed how dangerous the over hanging tree over the house was we decided to tackle this job with a EWP, and once we explained our reason why,we secured the job, then customer pipes up and tells us how the Islander described how he would send his son(a minor) up the dead tree with a saw without a harness and and chunk it down to him, this is what goes on behind the scenes down here,as soon as you say something they duck behind the rascism laws because of their colour, which is utter crap as I have seen very competant islanders out there working and going about it the right way,but when you here of this type of approach going on,and they go out in gangs of twenty to to thirty plus just so they can build their church,it pisses me off, they hurt us all. Some thing needs to be done,as when these part timers get hurt they counted as experienced arb workers which is a insult to any one that has studied hard for thier quals. I feel better now!!

After a lot of phone work, we hire this one for $200 a day and return it the next mourning,As long as you stay within its limitations it OK,but don't leave your HT75 at home!

Yeah it's a great piece of machinery for $200 a day. For most jobs we need an EWP this is the right one for the job, the stabiliser booms are very sturdy and durable aswell as their protective box around the controls. Luckily we have winches and a reverser (dad) to move our stuff around as alot of it is always up hill.

Thats true Dad, I had forgotten about what the customer said about those Islanders.

Man, that's exactly what goes on here.

They even say to the customer, "we're Christians, we dont cheat you"

I thought it was a unique problem to here, obviously not.
