A - One Trees' at work

They sure are one pretty tree when in bloom, It's just a pity about how invasive their root system can be. We have similer tree lined avenues of Jacarandas in Grafton in Nthn NSW They actually have a Jacaranda Festeval..truely beutiful when in bloom!

The little one we took down this afternoon had roots spreding out all over his front yard and ducking under his front foundation's

This little bloke was all cut and swing,the hardest part was chasing the roots around the front yard.

Hey Boa

I get most calls to quote removal of Jacarandas when they're in flower ....

... people hate the purple mess on the ground!

Society has become so intolerable of nature that flower, fruit and leaf drop is the largest reason for removals.

Especially now with rainwater tanks, pools were always bad but now leaves in gutters is now on.

Glad you got that one sussed. So handy in the right situations.

Pity they had to go though, i also have a soft spot for the Jacaranda. Thinking of planting one in my front yard actually. This year in Melbourne, i reckon they put on the best flower display i've seen from them yet for down here. Drought and a hot dry summer does em wonders.

That mentality never ceases to amaze me. Only the other day i were driving down a street lined with mature Pin Oak street trees. The whole road was covered thick with fallen leaves. To me it was beautiful. I wanted to stop the car, get out and roll around in em.

I thought, "How can people not like this". Its Autumn. Its a season. Its one of natures most wonderful artistic displays. And all the these people see is mess. Sad really.

I dont get cutting down a perfectly good tree so you dont have to clean the gutters. For the cost of a large removal you could pay someone to clean them for you for years.

Not that easy anymore with OHS BS. Even the lawn crowds have dipped out of gutter cleaning.

Many flat roofed houses here, the pitch aint enough for even the decent gutter guard to send them leaves off. My house has a flat roof, prolly around 3 degrees incline, where the tin is dinging it puddles and rusts. No gutter guard will work.

So becomes a "hubby will never do it job" or a PITA to get some-one else to do it so they eliminate the problem.

Real issue is they dont want to spend the right money to clean the gutters, shit, I'd start doing it if they paid $80/hour.

Back in Adelaide I loved autumn, I lived in the Barossa Valley for a little while ... the rolling hills turned into a amazing blaze of colour as the grape vines changed colour, real spectacular, nothing like that here, nothing.

People have a very different attitude to leaves here, they're way intolerant of them. I can understand with gutter and pools but when it's just leaves in the garden who gives a crap ... rather that than 15' long bloody palm fronds lying about.

But I'm a sceptic. You see, they offer nice clean new pics with tiled roofs and no video.

Winds blow off the leaves ... bullshit! Tiny little sticky poinciana leaves, leopard tree leaves and long petiola of umbrella trees get blown off? Bullshit! Let alone the berries and flowers from palm trees.

To me, snake oil. They should get their video cameras set up, call in a water truck or use real life scenarios and prove it. Till then, I remain a sceptic.

Mind you, I do see a well of cluttered gutters overflowing and water pissing out everywhere except the down pipe.

It is hard to replicate the dramatic autumn colours that occur in cooler climates and I really miss those leaf colours myself, as a 12/13yr old used to rake up the purple beech leaves every autumn with my dog loved it really did!

But you know we could have more colours like that if only we would plant native or endemic tree species that provide such colours.
Just run these ones throught your head...they may be a little tropical orientated, but remember I live in the dry tropics.... Millettia pinnata(beautiful bronze and copper new growth over the whole tree in autumn) Terminalia seriocarpa (vibrant lime green new growth over the whole tree stands out for kms in the bush!) Terminalia cattapa/arenicola/muelleri (all three have yellows/reds/burgandy colours before the leaf drop..entire tree)

Ok here's what I've got on my laptop, yes I know they're a bit arty but you know sometimes after a few ales you feel like looking at leaves ok....

The first two are of ne growth on Millettia pinnata, a common tree up here esp in areas of water harvesting, creek banks etc. the whole tree looks like this, and I missed the deeper colours that were present a few days before.

The next is new growth on Swetinia (bit of a cheat since its wouldn't be over the whole tree

This one is old foliage on a Planchonia careya (cocky apple) growing in the bush

And the last is one my current loves Barringtonia acutangula the grow anywhere tree tough small and beautiful, look at that colour and tell me you're not moved
