Default Rhus,Silky oak

Folks,
We have super arbs out there, "I work this stuff it does nothing to me" which is a fair comment but what they don't realise is every time you work these...lets call them..Reaction trees...they wear away at your imunity until the day you react to them and you could end up pushing up the daisys so all take note: Rhus has the ability to kill you, type it into google and have a read dangerous stuff.

Ekka, If I could have got the base of the rhus tree in the frame as well you would have seen that this has been cut down before and those three small leaders were epicormic regrowth,so I'd say at a guess some one new what it was, also what folks don't realise this tree is toxic from shoot to roots and you have to cover up from head to toe, respirator, bag it seal the bag then cut it down..to confine it..I think I would also have water spraying over the cut so it goes to ground stait away, then excavate the root system,I mean how do you isolate the dust while grinding, even this small specimen we have in this shot I would not go near it for less than 1 G to dame dangerous, and could leave you liable if the site contaminates as the resin stays active for up to six months.

Well today we took down a baby Liquidambar (8 Metres) and did 18 palms cleans...

He climbed it to try out the new harness and also it was just chuck n duck rather then cut it over on the full and get a big mess of branches.

Here are some photo's of John up the Liquidambar in his new harness and our pin point fell of the trunk.

Almost at the top

Top comin' over

Sitting at the top

This is where we wanted it

This is where we got it plus we didn't wanna damage our cone : D

Default Dead Gum removal (Tight how we like them)

Hi All,
This is John and myself removeing a dead gum in tight quarters. We had to swing the limbs into a 4 to 5 mtr, drop zone our swing area was over two adjioning backyards, we briefed the neigbours on staying indoors and out of their backyards which they did. Its was thumbs up backyards and fence line clear cut and swing. All done all good.

Sun sets on another professional job!

Hey, also in the rigging photo did you have a TIP above you seperate to the rigging point or were you just attached in front of you lanyard etc.. not being daft just can't see clearly on the photo and wondered is all.

Actually good you got onto it before it was that dead all the bark falls off.

Them jobs are good coz it narrows down the field, look like fairly new houses and the gum was remnant and didn't cope with all the new interference.

Well yesterday it was my dad's birthday and he was as sick as a dog, today he was bed ridden. So luckily for me my GF stayed home and she came and was my groundgirl for the day.

We took down a Malaleuca of some sort I think it was. It was basically top n flop. The tree's roots were lifting his cement path next to it, aswell as the foundations on his tool shed and house. Aswell it had 3 co dominent's.

My groundie bringing in the gear.

That's the tree with me in it, pity it had to go.

Top n Flop with the Polesaw.

Two slings, one steel carbiner rated at 32kN, one wedge and away she went (it didn't hit the house, the pic is just an illusion).

Proof :P

I really need to get myself a helmet cam (At the cost of my mesh visor : ( ), so we can get some good vids going rather then just pics

Default Root Damage

Hi Ekka,
This is the best pic we have got showing were the roots have lifted the brick fence. The tree presevation officer green lighted this removal, So out it came, but this elderly gent is a tree person and took great pride showing me his trees around his place. He originaly wanted us to top it and I explained how bad it is for the tree and not to mention it is illegal because of the damage it had done I couldn't see them saying no,he took my advice paid his fee and rang back to organise his job.
When they start damaging property or become dangerous we recomend removall

Never have trees so close to regular house walls, you're asking for it. The house is damaged now.

Default Very Impressed!

We has John and his work partner Suzie arrive at our house to remove a palm tree-and were impressed not only by his efficiency to remove a tree but also his skills at being completely safety concious. My husband and i needed to leave home before they had finished the job and when we came back home we were impressed by how clean they had left our backyard. This company must be very proud to have this very polite and efficient young man working for them.
Thankyou, sincerely from Barry & Heather Thode at St marys.

Well well well. Monday we took down a baby Jacaranda, yesterday we took down a medium Jacaranda, at 2:30pm today we'll be taking down another baby Jacaranda with vigourous roots and at 5pm today I'll be quoting another Jacaranda removal! Talk about a week of Jacaranda's....

Here are some pics of the one we took down yesterday (Wednesday) due to its root system and her sandy soil.

Basic canopy shot

To the right there was a significant branch going out and over the neighbours fence and sitting over the pagola.

I had to limb walk out to the very tip and do little tip cuts and throw it back into my clients yard.

All natural rigging and lowering.

Last cut before I had to switch my High line over

Switching my high line to a running bowline with a 2m tail. Thanks Trev for mentioning this technique and Ekka from demonstrating it in a video, the technique is a beaut!

I finally got the photo's of the cocos palm I took down (Barry & Heather Thode at St marys's cocos palm) off my GF's phone, will post them a little later.

They sure are one pretty tree when in bloom, It's just a pity about how invasive their root system can be. We have similer tree lined avenues of Jacarandas in Grafton in Nthn NSW They actually have a Jacaranda Festeval..truely beutiful when in bloom!

The little one we took down this afternoon had roots spreding out all over his front yard and ducking under his front foundation's

This little bloke was all cut and swing, the hardest part was chasing the roots around the front yard.
All The Best.

Hey Boa

I get most calls to quote removal of Jacarandas when they're in flower ....

... people hate the purple mess on the ground!

Society has become so intolerable of nature that flower, fruit and leaf drop is the largest reason for removals.

Especially now with rainwater tanks, pools were always bad but now leaves in gutters is now on.

Snappy buggers aren't they. Ya want a solid Tie in Point if you have to go out far on these.

Glad you got that one sussed. So handy in the right situations.

Pity they had to go though, i also have a soft spot for the Jacaranda. Thinking of planting one in my front yard actually. This year in Melbourne, i reckon they put on the best flower display i've seen from them yet for down here. Drought and a hot dry summer does em wonders.

That mentality never ceases to amaze me. Only the other day i were driving down a street lined with mature Pin Oak street trees. The whole road was covered thick with fallen leaves. To me it was beautiful. I wanted to stop the car, get out and roll around in em. I thought, "How can people not like this". Its Autumn. Its a season. Its one of natures most wonderful artistic displays. And all the these people see is mess. Sad really.

I dont get cutting down a perfectly good tree so you dont have to clean the gutters. For the cost of a large removal you could pay someone to clean them for you for years.

Not that easy anymore with OHS BS. Even the lawn crowds have dipped out of gutter cleaning.

Many flat roofed houses here, the pitch aint enough for even the decent gutter guard to send them leaves off. My house has a flat roof, prolly around 3 degrees incline, where the tin is dinging it puddles and rusts. No gutter guard will work.

So becomes a "hubby will never do it job" or a PITA to get some-one else to do it so they eliminate the problem.

Real issue is they dont want to spend the right money to clean the gutters, shit, I'd start doing it if they paid $80/hour.

Back in Adelaide I loved autumn, I lived in the Barossa Valley for a little while ... the rolling hills turned into a amazing blaze of colour as the grape vines changed colour, real spectacular, nothing like that here, nothing.

People have a very different attitude to leaves here, they're way intolerant of them. I can understand with gutter and pools but when it's just leaves in the garden who gives a crap ... rather that than 15' long bloody palm fronds lying about.

Trev

Good on ya for that, interesting find.

But I'm a sceptic. You see, they offer nice clean new pics with tiled roofs and no video.

Winds blow off the leaves ... bullshit! Tiny little sticky poinciana leaves, leopard tree leaves and long petiola of umbrella trees get blown off? Bullshit! Let alone the berries and flowers from palm trees.

To me, snake oil. They should get their video cameras set up, call in a water truck or use real life scenarios and prove it. Till then, I remain a sceptic.

Mind you, I do see a well of cluttered gutters overflowing and water pissing out everywhere except the down pipe.

Back in Adelaide I loved autumn, I lived in the Barossa Valley for a little while ... the rolling hills turned into a amazing blaze of colour as the grape vines changed colour, real spectacular, nothing like that here, nothing.
It is hard to replicate the dramatic autumn colours that occur in cooler climates and I really miss those leaf colours myself, as a 12/13yr old used to rake up the purple beech leaves every autumn with my dog loved it really did!

But you know we could have more colours like that if only we would plant native or endemic tree species that provide such colours.
Just run these ones throught your head...they may be a little tropical orientated, but remember I live in the dry tropics.... Millettia pinnata(beautiful bronze and copper new growth over the whole tree in autumn) Terminalia seriocarpa (vibrant lime green new growth over the whole tree stands out for kms in the bush!) Terminalia cattapa/arenicola/muelleri (all three have yellows/reds/burgandy colours before the leaf drop..entire tree)
