You live in a really pretty place LeifR, your lucky. I've never seen real snow like the first video, so peaceful, but it must be cold. Julie |

Thanks for posts! Last winter we had nearly -30 C. That's rather cold. But the summers may be warm, even warmer than I like. In a couple of weeks we have summer holidays! Spring picture of Norwegian spruce. ![]() Leif. |

Yes, minus thirty is rather cold, but we are used to it here. But we need good clothes. The Danes say: Bad weather doesn't exist, only bad clothes. The last shots in my swan story video are shot at -28C. |

I think I'm unsuitable to live in that climate. I think 10C is bloody cold!

-30 C is cold, tho tolerable -but the right clothes help, along with moving around lots. -40 C (or colder) and a wind -- that's about my limit, cold wise. Just so you know, I seldom work in trees below -10 C -- too hard to keep the hands warm, and the body goes into hypothermia every day. Eventually you just wear yourself out . So, I don't normally work from January thru March. 10 C is a comfortable day, 35 C is getting hot, and I don't work when the ambient temperature is 40 C or hotter -- takes too long to recover. Guess I couldn't work in Australia. Of course, Toronto also has humidity. And 40 C is like an all day sauna -- tough to take, and usually little to no wind. |

Just a "hello" after summer and holidays at the ocean. Some sun, some rain, some wind. Not as much fish as last year, but enough. It has to be eaten too. I visited an island near by our camping, and I found some special cliffs I hadn't noticed before. It came to my mind that it was very much alike cliff villages, in miniature. And indeed, I found some citizens as well! ( )I simply had to make a video.![]() Leif. |

The photo from the waterfall is from our neighbour village, Bø in Telemark. The waterfall is called Oterholtfossen. The video is shot close to my home. The canal is a 105 km long system of rivers and lakes, making it possible to travel from the sea and deep into the heart of Telemark. The canal was opened in 1892. Now it is a tourist canal closed in the winter. |

I am milling elm at the moment. Four arborists took down a big elm last week. The bottom log was huge, 115 cm. (That's quite big here.) But it was a bit rotted, so I got some pieces higher up. Elm is wonderful wood. |

I'll try some woodturning. Turning green, then dry for several months, at least. Second turning after that. Elm has been used for furniture, even it's a difficult type of wood. Twisting and cracking are known problems. Elm has to dry for a rather long time. So, time will show how many pieces may be used for furniture etc., and what will be for the stove. Fresh cut the inner part has a beautiful red-brown colour, but it becomes coffe brown when it's dry. It may perhaps be a bit like walnut wood. |

Hi LeifR, Only recently I saw your threads/posts about Norway and I've been see all the pics and videos you make and I can tell you that not only you have a great ability to see things through a camera lens, you edit your videos very professionally with music that does really enhance the images, well done mate...! Norway is definitely a beautiful place and a cold one too, I once (1994) met a lady from Norway holidaying in Australia, I was in the Northern Territory than and we spend some great times together. She was a great ambassador of her country and I've learned so much from here, including some customs and habits from Norway..! She (Anne), sent me a couple of items (pics attached) that represent well Norway, one is a wooden "mug" use to drink from the springs (I saw a similar one on one of your videos) and a hand painted picture from one of her good friends in Norway. This lady is a painter and she really puts in those brushes a special touch that make the images to look so real...! I have not yet seen the mention of the video camera you use for your videos, what ever it is, it does a great job and zooms beautifully...! Keep up the good work mate, you do it well...! Cheers George |

Thanks for encouraging comments, all of you! Nice to hear you like my stuff. My video camera is a Panasonic NVGS500, DV (tape) recorder. Some years old, but DV is still giving best quality, I think. TonyK: In the glass: Home made beer... Wooden cups, "mugs", is rather common here. Used for coffe or other good fluids. Mostly the water in the mountains is clean enough to drink, but this year we have got a warning. Because of huge numbers of mice in the mountains, the water may be contaminated. The mugs may be mass produced or carved by hand, often from burls. My students i the 8th class are making their own mugs jest now. We use white birch, form them roughly in green wood amd then let them dry before finishing. Mass produced cups at a local market. Bulli. Where in Norway have you been? Ich habe freunde in Schwäbish Hall. Ich bin da mehrmals gewesen. |
