Default My largest take down one Big Oak

This is the biggest tree i have taken down. it was over 3 different yards, a garage, 4 trees, secondary hydro, 2 phone lines, and a cedar hedge. Myself and business partner where both in the tree from 830am until 330pm then he left it was not safe for 2 climbers anymore. i finished climbing at 530pm and he went up and finished it at 7pm.
the customer said One company quoted 9000$ for the removal i wish i quoted anywhere near that high

Here are some pics enjoy.

Great pics, big job.

What happened to the big log/trunk at the end? You fell it, block it, sell it, firewood it etc?

So, how the groundies run with 2 climbers? Must have been a production line down there processing all of that.

Tell us more.

well those pictures make it look smaller then i thought it was after i spent 10 hours in it lol.... when we got it to the truck we blocked it till the last thirty feet then took the main stem whole and pulled the bell lines back so we wouldn't hit them... had three groundies one stayed on the port a wrap switching rigging ropes none stop while the other two ran back and forth between yards pulling the branches back away from the hydro and other obsticals and run them to the chipper in between cuts. It was none stop working for everybody got it done in one day thankfully.

So, crew of what 4 or 5?

Chipper size, you must have had some huge volume of chip ... last job we did on this video Some quick flops we had 75m3 of chip

Honestly I'm thinking for you guys that would have gone 2 day job all up with hauling chip wood stump etc and crew ... I'd say $5K minimum

there was 5 of us in total 2 in the tree and 3 on the ground it was two loads of chips from a Vermeer 1000bcxl 12" in our one ton dump truck we didn't have to touch the wood but it think we could have hauled it all out and done the stump in another 5 hours so ya it woulda worked out to about 18 hours to do the entire tree with 5 guys.

when we first quoted the job we told the owner if we can leave the log we can give him a good deal. but told him i would find someone to get it for free but we would not be responsible for the log.but the owner decided he would sell the firewood. I would have raised the price at least 1/3 of what we quoted to move that much wood or cut it. The groundie we have on the porta wrap is fast on the ropes and as big as horse so he can almost do the work of 2 guys that are good.

Nice job on that big sucker!

Isn't it crummy how you look at the pictures and it doesn't look the same as when you're actually the one up there doin the work?

Good work though.

every piece had to be lowered with a tag line or on a second block to bring i out from the lines. i looked at a few of my other pictures and their are more ropes in the tree then branches a real pain keeping them out of the hydro lines

If it was not for the good groundies that myself and kIDINTREE hire we would never get it down in a day. They are good workers and went 12hrs with no breaks they ate and drank on the run and in the rain.

I am using the buckingham versatile. i find when i am using the lanyard d rings on the harness it is a little uncomfortable after long periods but when using the attachments the roller strap or five attachment points is pretty comfortable. The hard and most painful part for me was standing on spurs that long my legs where shot.

When i got home and sat down i could still feel myself swinging in the wind that was weird. it was nice and windy all day.

After a few spike climbs in a day i find myself leaning back when standing on flat ground as if i was wearing a lanyard and still in a tree.

Hey Treemonkey , did you guys secure that split crotch? I notch both leads and run a chain around em with a load binder. Because I had one rip out while topping ,thankfully I was tied in on the other bole.I dont know if others do this ,but the chain works great and its makes me feel better. Great job and stay safe, I know that phantom feeling of "still having ur hooks on" all to well.
