Looks like hard work Bill.
So, if you get bitten by a rattler, do you have time to drive to the hospital or call the medics?
Make sure you wear good thick leather boots and very (temperatures allowing) heavy trousers.
Do you carry anti-venom or is it hard to come by or very expensive?

Questions! questions!

You found your camera.

Don't the rattlesnakes make it easy for you to find them?

That's like working in a minefield...you should get some hazard pay. I would think it is a little cool for them to be real active, even down in Dead Twig.

We've been in the high 80's during the day Dave, plenty warm enough, definatly hazardous,Nick, hospital is about 6 blocks away so there would be time for me to get there if i got bite, definatly heavy work boots and 2 pair of pants.Oh the trouble with the rattlers is that they won't always rattle before biting so i really watch where i step.Hey Dave, maybe send me the dingo next week?

If Steve Irwin was still around we could send him in there to clear the area. Saw him do it once on TV in a military training area. Miss Ole Stevo. "What a little beauty"

It almost done Dave,I was a good 6-8 feet from them when i saw the snakes, after i saw them i took the rest of that day off.I'm pretty sure that me going in there and cutting and move logs out was disturbing a nest.I also id'd the rattlers as pygmy rattlers, they're not as deadly as diamondbacks, but if they bite you in the right spot, they could kill you but if you immune is good then its unlikely.

Yep,which is why i do everything possible to prevent getting bit, including talking to the client[a good friend btw]into renting a loader to come in and remove all the wood i have already cut up,i'm beging to think a match and some gas would have been a better solution.

My area is famous for the Mojave Green rattlesnake. Apparently they're a bit deadlier than the basic variety. Still, people get bit all the time and rarely ever die from it. It's supposed to be excruciatingly painfull though.

People dont carry antivenin(antivenom). You have to get it at the hospital. First they test to see if you're allergic or not. If you *are*, it can kill you if given in the dose you would normally take.

And then there's different kinds... they work differently on different people; and expirations, injections, etc... It's not really a kit you carry around with you. Best to just make sure you can get to a hospital quickly!

Btw, 2 summers ago I was walking just after sunset and heard a *crunch....RATTLE!!!* under my right foot. Stepped right on one and didnt even see it till it got pissed off!
Heh.... there are few things which will make you take off running as quickly.

I've got a snake but having a pet corn snake isn't quite the same as stumbling across a venomous one, lol
