Melbourne got 90k+ winds with a passing low system. That with already very wet ground was cause of some grief. Dads day was up at 6 on saws 6 30 here a few snaps taken when I could. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Wow those first two pics are really interesting the tree roots didnt leave that small planting area! they are pics worth keeping just so people can see what happens when tree roots cant extend out and brace the tree. Glad your ok could have been interesting

Southern subs Peninsula from Red hill to Frankston south many trees limbs down every where. These are what you can see just driving the main roads whats in the back yards can only be imagined. The buzz of saws n drone of chippers will be around for a while. I suspect the heaved hoe,d Cypress had a water line leak below as its sunk & fallen at the same time. You can see the fire plug post & temporary water main that snakes past in the picture. Yup were startin to get 40%+ in our city dams now after getting down to 27%its a relief. |

Oh! It is terrible to see such things.... Well, it seems to be not safe to live near an old and big tree. Although is is really interesting to stay beneath a big tree but when it rains, especially heavy rain, it is really dangerous as well |

I think the damage to houses would be a lot more sever if there weren't those big old trees there to absorb some of the energy.

| Well yes and kinda no. Big old trees in high winds can cause some grief. However their benefits often far outweighs their low incidences of harm to people and property. This storm was harsh yet no one was hurt and property damage was minimal. Consider having no trees at all. Imagine removing all large tree cover and then having 100K plus winds blow past un protected houses. Then imaging the heat on a hot day your homes exposed to all day sun. Or in high rain fall the run off without tree canopy causing flood or erosion. The aim is balance to get urban trees maintained while planting suitable species. This is easy said requiring input and knowledge. In time we may learn to build homes in forest sharing a future with trees.

Hi, I am back Well, I did not mean that I hated big old trees but I am afraid not being safe to live near them. Any way, I like to have a tree, of course not too big, in front of my house ![]() __________________ Web Development |
