Default Good size Euc takedown.

Heres a few pictures of a good size Euc takedown I did on the weekend. Was covered in Gum leaf skeletoniser, has become a big problem here and seems to be everywhere!!

Looked like fun. I love to climb but the speed you can work out of a bucket makes ewp's more cost effective. How come you climbed that one? I'm not being critical just curious as to your thoughts on this job.

Outofmytree,
Hardly anyone uses buckets over here except for line clearance. Not cost effective for 99 percent of the work we do. They only time I have used a bucket is for phoenix palms and for a huge mexican alder hedge. Was prity straight forward and could bomb most things out with no piecing which saved time. Dont have the palms you guys do so makes things easiler.

How about just felling it whole onto the street?

tk can I ask how much the hourly rate for a 24m mobile tower is? Here it sets me back $115.50 ph, min of 2 hours. So for this job, assuming 1 hours travel time, I could put then entire tree on the ground in 2 hours for a total of 3 hours hire. Thats under $350 for the bucket and, looking at your photo's and the surrounding area, say another 2 hours to chip the lot. I often leave blocks too large to chip on site untill the weekend then do a "bobcat run". Doing the job this way means I can literally do double the work in the same period of time.

Understand I love to climb and I am not being critical of your job or technique. I am simply curious as to other professionals thoughts on different jobs.

Ekka,
We did this job on the weekend because its normally a busy industrial area. Still had a major amount of traffic for a sat so felling wasnt a good option. Also there was a footpath close to the dropzone that would of been wrecked with the whole tree fell and also the kerb and road.

Out of my tree,
Buckets are not often used in this sort of application here. It took me about 3-4 hours to get it all down on the ground and felled the last section from the ground. I only quoted for one day and all firewood was cut and remained on site for the property owner. took us about 10 hours with 3 guys all up including travel and firewood time. There isnt really a good place to hire a bucket truck near where I live, only cherry pickers or elevated platform. plus you have to bring and extra person to drive the bucket truck with an HT, and you have to get it back straight away to make your money back. It also means that you can get straight to site and work with the equipment you normally use on a day to day basis.

Good call. A member of the public has ben killed here in Melbourne from a tree crew doing exactly that. Car drove around the corner & BAM! Not a good practice unless you can absolutely, securely shut down the road.

I work very similar. Most jobs dont have the access. Unless its something too dangerous to climb, or its a bit of work on 100+ trees in a wide open park/school or something i'd rather pay my crew than a tower company.

Thanks for the feedback tk. I don't have your onsite knowledge so it's easy for me to say what it LOOKS like the job would take, quite another to be there and KNOW what it would take.

Keep sending in photo's. Loved the work.
