Thankyou i find that how you portray yourself to the public has a huge standing in 1. how quickly they pay and 2. how many of their friends they tell about you. its not my business but i do have an influence over how we work, act and look the boss now gives me free rein to get things done, i have installed all of thier wh&s which is unheard of in alot of small companies over here, a word to the wise in AUS the wh&s are starting spot checks on any tree work happening so make sure you have your upto date paperwork on the dash board ready to go, it could mean the difference between a 15 minute visit and a 4-5 hour visit i know which i prefer.

Had a job today where the customer almost refused to let me prune her trees, the story was she is an avid gardener she has a very well maintained garden, she contacted a tree lopping company with an allegedly qualified arb his words, she told him she wanted a 20% reduction on her red cedar (Toona cilata) he says to her "its ok love i know what im doing we can take the top off nice and flat" at that point she asked him to leave stateing that he didnt have a clue about tree care. he got a bit abusive but left,
so when i got there i talked to her about pruning the different trees around the garden and noticed her roses, i gave her some rose pruning tips and she smiled and said go ahead and do my trees and went off to make a cuppa, the result was.....before

After

Before

After

Customer was happy at the end of the job and repeat business looks to be guaranteed.
also trimmed my first Bolusanthus speciousus - Tree wisteria lovely little tree that was cabled with stainless rods.

Certainly a young tree well able to cope with the pruning dose you applied, hope the owner realizes just how large that cedar wants to be though.

Very beautiful trees, the bark is even more impressive than the short lived flowers.

Here is an example of what happens when people lop a mature tree, don't finish cuts to target and leave longer stubs.
This Tereticornis was originally lopped in half thirty years ago and hasnt been touched since.
It is approximately 28 meters high with a DBH of 1.27 meters, the spread is 10.6 meters to the south, 11 meters to the north, 9.6 to the east and 10.8 meters to the west so a very mature tree, it has drive way on two sides, one of which is 200mm from the base the other is 2.4 meters down hill.

i have marked two areas that were problematic.

Area 1 Note how the stub has rotted back.

Area 1

Area 1 above

Area 2 still not healed over after30 years.

Area 2

The tree after removing area 1 and lower limbs over right hand house, the limb was filled with stinking water and had penetrated into the main bulk of the tree.
Thanks to a lack of understanding about tree biology this is a tree that is going to need attention for many years to come.

Jeez, nice pics!

So what ya going to do? Or rather, what is the client going to do?

Seems like there's targets within striking distance if a failure happens but it has stood up to a lot of storms too.

A Jacaranda that was buried you can see the level, the landscapers buried it five years previous and now the canopy is filled with dead wood and fungi.
I pruned all that I could out of the canopy and excavated the soil away I will go back and apply a treatment and feed it in a week or so.
