Yep the old 660 hammered through them but they were unbelievably heavy sections to work. with a very hard outer core to break through.
and no they were hand rolled and lifted onto my tuck couldn't justify the kanga for 3 meters really, three loads of cuban= 4 tonnes

Some tree TLC today on the infected spottygums.

The tool, a Stihl BT45 with 25mm dia tungsten tip drill to bore a series of holes ....

Then apply the jungle juice, a special blend after getting the soil test results back.

Customer @ 80 years old doesn't want to lose the tree, or see it broken etc.

Pruning or reducing the RH leader would make a huge hole in the canopy and spoil the aesthetics plus invite sunburn to exposed upper limbs.

Solution:- Dynamic cable.

That system is so easy to install and a very effective way to prevent possible damage

A skeletonised gum leaf deep in the Lamington National Park rain forest.

We went in a little further than Burraboomba falls to do the Toolona Creek Circuit but a storm was rolling in, we retreated and walked back between Bijungwin Cascades and Burraboomba Falls, the track was getting boggy and the storm had not hit yet, we were getting the odd drops of rain. Anyway at this point you are about 10kms in and it's an uphill 2.5hours maybe 2 hours to get out from where we were. Light was poor and it was dark, thunder echoes in the valley. We made it back to O'Reillys and within 30 minutes a severe storm hit. I decided to high tail it out with 3 kids and 2 creek crossings to account for, kids were between 8yo and 12yo. But got this pic of Burraboomba falls, not many get this far I'd say by the lone walker that passed us.

Default DDDD pruning

Often when pruning you'll hear the terms DDDD

WTF? you say.

Well, DDDD stands for:-
  • Dead
  • Dying
  • Diseased
  • Dysfunctional

So this branch wasn't really dead, diseased or dying .... but certainly dysfunctional.

Blueberry ash tree getting spasmodic branches die, hmm, must investigate.

Climb tree, check over carefully, look very closely where dead branch attachment is. I find borers tend to hang out around branch unions. They eat the cambium just beneath the bark which in turn stops the vascular flow = branch death. The holes to find for this one were tiny and we got 1 borer in there was maybe 1mm diameter and 3mm long, tiny bugger.

Here's the pics (but no borer pic here as I squashed it!).

Default road trip

Brisbane > Ipswich > Warwick > Inglewood > destination Goondiwindi.

Return Goondiwindi > Texas via hwy 44 (but took Tucka Tucka road as great scenery) > Stanthorpe > Warwick > return Brisbane.

It was very green out west, I was absolutely stunned by the volume of trees and especially habitat trees. Frankly it makes me realise how insignificant in the grand scheme of things it is to carry on about saving a tree in suburbia or risking them as they decline (dying trees are extremely valuable for habitat but space is an issue in suburbia). There was trees all the way, everywhere you looked and lots of them were busting up for habitat. I cannot recall it ever being such from my childhood days, it was incredible to see including many on even farm pastures.

There was tons of wildlife, birds, lizards, snakes, frogs etc .....

I'd love to do that gravel road on the NSW side of the river between Texas and Goondiwindi, but you have to be careful for flooding. Last week the river rose dramatically at Goondwindi, went up maybe 6m from rain early in the week. The levy just saved them earlier this year too, there's only a levy on the QLD side, let the cockroaches drown eh.

Anyway, here's some pics. It's quite a list.

Warwick main street with Canary Island date palms and Claret Ash trees

Another street in Warwick with London Planes

Inglewood main street

Dingo fence at Yelarbon

Macintyre river at Goondiwindi, picture is from on top of levy.

3' goanna was eating a run over wallaby on the side of the road between Texas and Stanthorpe, I pulled over to get a shot and it ran up an ironbark!

Beautiful cedars in Stanthorpe

But they are full of these spikes from the cones that rot off!

Not a whole lot of street scaping like the other towns but this was neat.

Big gum stump near Queen Mary Falls 10kms from Killarney (oh the weight loss has been going great )

And here's Queen Mary Falls shot with a 10 second shutter.

And not far away is Browns Falls, bit of a mongrel walk up the creek but along the way you'll stuff like this (8 second shutter)....

And here's Brown's Falls (very difficult to photograph 0.1second shutter) ...
