| I did a little rope climbing yesterday in a large hickory over a second story deck and house. I set three ropes in the tree from the ground, two climbing and one lowering. I usually work by myself so I don't get many chances to get photos but yesterday the clients 10 year old son took a few shots for me. Both climbing ropes were set at about 70ft. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Those hickory trees get big. They'd be strong wood? Hey Dan, that looks like an elephant eared co-dominant union, maybe cabling etc? You mentioned targets. ![]() Also, do you set up Cambium Savers etc for you ropes?

I set the rope on the limb to be removd with a running bowline and then set the rope higher in the tree, brought it to the ground, and tied it off(all done with a throw line from the ground before entering the tree). I untied it after I got down and lowered it to the ground. I also used the end running to the ground as speed line a couple of times after it was loaded but no photo. If you look in the photo on the other side of the tree from me you can see the rope tied to the hanging limb. The butt end of the limb is sticking out behind my head. This limb hung in the tree until I got to the ground and lowered it. ![]() | |

| Thanks Mike. I'm sorry to say I'm not sure what hickory that was. It may be a red. White is not listed as native to GA and I'm quite sure it's a native. I will foot lock to 30 or so feet but this was about 70'. I worked the first leader from the top down to 30', then removed a 5 inch diameter crossed and rubbing limb between the two leaders, and then worked the second leader from the bottom up. I was able to get my Bandit 250 into the back yard and chipped the brush in a pile. It was a nice afternoon with no one on the payroll and very low equipment usage. |

| The bucket is mostly for removals. It seems I can't get the bucket to most trees so I'd say it only gets used for about 20% of the time. My bucket is 70ft. to the top of the bucket but it does not have a chipper box and as I mostly work by myself I can't take two trucks and two trips is a time killer. |

| I'm having the same problems ... my groundy got another job F/T and now I cant take the truck and my ute at the same time etc. Tomorrow I'm on my own again, I'll take the ute and trailer, I hate emptying the trailer compared to the truck ... but the ute has all my gear, everything you'd ever want whilst the truck has no place for tools! The best part about that groundy was I never paid them, in almost 9 months of service! Damn, I'm gonna miss that. ![]()
