Great pictures as usual, It amazing how they survive in such desolate places.I mean how did the palms get there?same time as the camels?? ![]() ![]()

Well, apparently they are survivors over millions of years. This one valley was the only place they could survive. 1. water seeps through the rocks over thousands of years so they are unafected by droughts 2. the gradient of the valley is fairly flat, so the water flow is not too forceful after heavy rains 3. the catchment area of Palm Creek is small, so there are no catastrophic floods. There is no way these palms could survive in the main Finke valley; leave that to the river red gums. |
