Very nice. I just embedded that pic for you, very worthy for it to be displayed.

How do you get the colour into the carving like that?

For others there's also a thread on carving trees as an alternative to habitat trees.

Have you ever been like carving one and a great hunk busts off? Then what?

I know many stumps have cracks and decay etc, just wondering what you do with the imperfect ones.

Ya, it happens sometimes. I just adjust to the wood that is left if I can.As far as cracks go, most all carvings in the round will crack (I promise they will crack to my customers), I like to judge where the crack will be and work on the opposite side, also a relief cut in the back of the carving will help direct the pressure relief away from the good stuff.

Mate, they're something else eh?

Unbelievable detail. I dont know anyone around these parts that does anything like that ... but I sure know of some stumps that could do with it.

Mark, how do you preserve the carving from decaying or weathering down over the years. Oil, paint, varnish? I figure we build houses out of wood and they stay for years so how would one try to preserve the carving in the garden?

Thanks, I enjoy carving alot and put my heart into it, nice to know that it shows.
Carvings left outside do best if they have a roof over them and are up off the ground, but this seldom happens. Spar Varnish works good, once a year. Nothing lasts forever, including carvings, but nice to see them last a long time

These morel mushrooms are highly sought after in USA.

I have never heard of them till Mario spoke of them.

Do we have them here in Australia? Are they good, like better than buttons or champignons? Heck, I like shroons like the next bloke, but Morel's .... never heard of them.

If you like mushies and I do then Morels are the ants pants really, they grow exceptionally well in Tasmania and also are grown in some parts of Victoria.

Carvinmark...welcome mate, your artworks are very beautiful

Morel mushrooms taste like steak if you fry them in butter and add some salt. People around here even take days off work to go into the woods and find them. I talked to a woman last week that found over 35 pounds in a day! That is a lot, most I ever found in a day is about 1/4 pound, Maybe that is why I carve them- can't find em,lol

Carvinmark
Thats some great art work, alot of time and patience has gone into your work.On top of the local mountain called MT Dandy there is a large wood carvin tree trunk in skyhigh park, that has been done by a local woodcarver, i have some pic's for your viewing, don't think it's got the detail like your carvings.
Keep up the good work
Cheers
Ace Master.

Do you only use a chainsaw for your carvings, or also other tools?

Hi and thanks Roel,
Looks like everybody had a hoot of a time, lol. Chainsaw carving is fun to me too. I use any tool I can get my hands on for my carvings from saws to chizels and grinders, except at chainsaw only competitions.
