I dropped this monster tree. I believe it was a record for the state of ohio. I had tried to save it and made my driveway go around it but the construction was too much for it. It was 7 feet in diameter at 30 feet up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My stihl 660 I had just bought on ebay failed after I took the notch out and I had to finish it with a farm boss. Is it possible that a driveway could kill a tree of that size?

that would depend on how close to the tree the roots were cut and if lime or concrete was poured on the roots or base of the tree when installing it.

Thanks for sharing. What you do with the wood? Quote:
I guess were really talking about root damage and soil compaction. primarily. | |

I have to wonder.... Looks like there is a lot of wide open space there... If you had a enough room to fell that tree whole, then surely you had enough room to have put the driveway much further away from the tree, avoiding root damage & compaction and preventing its premature decline??? |

I wonder if the driveway broke when he felled it? I have no experience with that species of tree.

Tulip poplars are lite Ekka. the wood is also "snappy". These trees are very common to excced 100 feet. I have abunch of 2' x 2' rubber mats that are 3 inches thick. I stack about three or four together on both sides of the drive way and the impact totally misses the pavement . |

Would be a lot of raking up then all those dead bits shattering. ![]() Rake up sucks! What about when it's a pine tree with cones, or worse, black bean tree or mango tree in fruit.

Yeah , the clean-up is equivalent to puting a stick of dynamite at every crotch and fork and detonating simultaneously OOOPS , seem to have a couple pieces missing. may have to knock off $ 20 from the clean-up |

That tree looks very similar to a Cottonwood, (White Poplar).
