Now this picture really intrigues me, is that the rotten centre of the tree?

Now that's a tree with some character, what's with all the green crap? Is it slimy and slippery?

So how are you liking the job, looks OK to me from the pics, is it flat out go go go all day without breaks or is it like a govt job where red tape and paperwork is half of it?

lovin it so far. all removals and takedowns with absolutey no clean up. they are widening for the highway and we just get em away from the lines. moss everywhere cause its so damp. ive never seen evergreens grow so fast as they do here. they say its cause of all the rain they get. got some towering firs and several large lombary to do tomorrow. weve got all the time we need to do em. no hurry. we are required to do a separate safety briefing for each tree but ive been grouping them togather cause individually is retarded.
this evergreen{which i havent looked up whar exactly it is} was wierd. ever see this sort of thing. its the same plant....no grafting and there were two of them side by side.

Yeah bigshea, I've encountered one of those too in the past. Don't know how that is possible though. Ask MD Vaden, he'll probably know this, I reckon....

That is unusual, some type of deformity perhaps.

That would be an Alberta Spruce, trying to revert back to a White Spruce -It's parent tree. I believe the Alberta Spruce is an abnormality found on spruce trees, like a witches broom, taken and grafted on a normal Spruce root stock.

checked up on that theory and it definately holds water. i read that single brooms on a plant are usually characteristic of a genetic deformity as opposed to stress, infection, parasites which may cause several "hexebesen"witches broom to occur. thanks for the direction brandon. thats the first ive ever noticed one on a conifer.
