Some pics I took with my phone from a removal we did a month or so back... been meaning to post the pictures for a while ![]() Got the camera out a bit late, but got at least a few lifts. ![]() ![]() ![]() A branch too big sends the lowering device up the slippery buttress. Shot the tension bar about 40', quite a formidable missile. |

Hey Mark ![]() Yep, all Grants. The last pic was the limb that did the damage, curling around the back of the tree and up the bank behind ![]() I was already standing about 40' feet away from the LD, with my feet distinctly clear of the pile of running rope. Just as I saw the branch starting to giggle, I knew it was probably going to take a bit more glove than I had leather to stop it. When 20' of my run disappeared through my hands because the device had unfaithfully left its post, the thought 'You win again gravity' crossed my mind. |

The average lifts from high in the stem were around 4 - 5 ton, mid section were around 6 - 8 ton and many of the lower lifts were around 12 ton edit. I couldn't guess the weight of the limb, but it was about 30' - 40' long and was wet. Had about a 4 ' drop at the cut before the slack in the rigging took up so it would've had a bit behind it by that stage. Last edited by Angus; 16th September 2008 at 05:33 PM. Reason: 'limb', not lifts |

Big Wood there Angus! Looks like you got away with the wayward limb anyhow Must be one of the perks of working in the bush, not too many precious obstacles below |

Definite Perk ![]() There were a few things to dodge though... a water tap (hat), gas barbecue (saw), park bench, a gas main (under ground) and a fence line (right). |

Few happy snaps of an ash we splattered this arvo, it was hung up in another tree. Graeme jumped up on the boards to put a smile in it. The light was a bit low for my phone, and I cbf fiddling with photoshop. You can sorta see what happened anyhow... ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Angus; 27th October 2008 at 12:00 AM. |

Yikes, eh, Angus?!!! Had a guy get his arm caught and wrenched when the GRCS slid up a smooth barked red oak, while he was cranking a limb up (tree on house) And we've had it loosen or slip up a couple times...nothing so dramatic as that near rocket launch. I purchased the new visor plate for the GRCS, which allows it to be installed in a more bombproof fashion, similar to the Hobbs, by making a kerf cut in the tree and slotting the plate in. I also have a beefy Milwaukee right angle drill, for quick tensioning, lifting, or pulling, as in Graham's "Beam Me Up Scotty" device....... |

hey mate, lol thats right, we had a fair representation in that thread. yeh i've been well, just on the last crazy stretch with uni and exams starting next week. I'll soon offset it with a liberal amount of surfing and riding ![]() Graeme... I've barely seen him for a month. He's been working away from home last few weeks, and he's OS next few weeks. Apparently he'll come back lol. The job sunday night, and the job I was filming monday was the extent of his homecoming ![]() How about yourself? I don't suppose you'll be celebrating Cup weekend ...? |

30F... {shivers} we're going the opposite, heading for pleasant 21C (70F). busy is best. what are you gonna do with all the wood? Glad Tahune day 3 is still kicking around. In retrospect I could've made it a lot shorter, but it does demonstrate the monotony well. Went for my first ride in ages before dropping my car off for a gas conversion... took my new avatar. |
