Here are some of the photos from my visit to Adelaide last week. River Torrens 3mins from main Mall ![]() Heading towards the Botanical gardens moderate sized Ficus macrophylla ![]() Further up the same road check out the canopy coverage (that will be after bud break) over the road junction! ![]() Plane tree drive very special.... ![]() Now this road was surfaced 97' very little impact on the bitumen or the small kerb....though I do think the trees have been very slightly buried. ![]() Compare with the basal flare on these beauties in the gardens proper.... ![]() More to come..... |

Keep them coming, I feel at home! Frome road is spectacular in summer, and to think how well those trees are still doing after all the surfacing and hard paved areas.

Nice pics Sean! Those Planes do look impressive. We have some streets with Melias but never seen a proper avenue of them before.

You know Trev I've only scratched the surface of the charm and beauty I encountered in Adelaide but especially Waite Arboretum. The more I see of the major cities of Oz the more impressed I am with the foresight of the original planners...Melbourne included, I really feel each of us as Arborists owes it to our future city dwellers to do all we can (living our own lives accepted!!) to ensure that the urban forest of the future is just as attractive and beneficial to the people living there...ok enough talk more pics. Flowering pear Pyrus sp ![]() ![]() Pretty little park in the middle of the city ![]() The elm avenue leading up to Waite Arboretum ![]() More flowering pears at the Arboretum..yes I like flowering pears ![]() ![]() A very aesthetic end to lovely day of looking and talking about trees |

Ah yes!! Canopy coverage of trees over roads. I do miss that from Melbourne! Not a hell of a lot of coverage over Gold Coast roads...hell, not a lot of mature trees at all! Whats a tree hugger to do?! |

Great pics by the way Sean. With your love of Platanus, are you a pommie? I prefer platanus orientalis, much, MUCH bigger spread, same decorative bark, great park tree. Not too sure about their response to roadside pollution though. |

I've got stella bottles here that are meant for the aussie market, and they are far better of taste to drink then the stella beer we have on our belgian market. I see you guys have a lot of platanus over there... Have you guys encountered masaria disease yet? It's comming our way over here from north holland, but I haven't encountered one yet. Platanus is one of my favourite trees, so I try to climb alot of them and go looking for marks of masaria. | |

Quercus, I am adicted to Belgian beers, esp the lambic types...some of my favourites....Chimay Reserve, chimay red/blue/brown Kriek, Cuvee des Trolls, Orval and Kwak. Don't know anything about masaria disease but will try to find more info on it, don't get to Adelaide much once a year, but there are Plantanus in the Gold Coast so I'll check up on the disease and if it is present here. |
