A "sculpture" of some sort, put in when Jeff Kennett was premier of victoria.

It's beside the freeway, as you come into melbourne from the airport.

It kind of says "Welcome to Melbourne!, I hope your as happy to be here as i obviously am!"

Referred to by locals as "Jeff's Erection"

G'day tree world,

Right, this is the crane company we use for tree work lifting check out this crane it's there biggest, it was lifting a aircon unit ontop of the local shops, it had a 70m fly jib and it had to reach 80m to the middle of the shopping centre. It took 4 hrs to assemble the crane, with 6 semi trucks carrying the counter weights and jib booms. The aircon units each weighed in at 600kgs and came in 3 parts and a small 50t was need to construct the fly jibs. phill you will love this crane....lol

I'm always amazed at the can do expense and expertise of engineers and construction.

Had it have been 3 x 600kg logs the average customer here would have said carry it and save me the crane.

I see them crane is all sorts of stuff, some not that heavy but when it's tree work you supposedly own a magic carpet. Many customers will take the cheaper labour intensive quote over equipment.

Nice crane, thanks for the pics.

Hope you's like them, it's very dangerous work with these burning trees, some have aready failed on us, you have to be so careful when making your cuts and spotters are very handy in these situations.

Nice pics Ace! That last bushfire one is a beaut, if you've got a higher resolution shot seems like an arbor age front cover type of photo...

Very special pictures! I think it's difficult to imagine from the oposite side of the world how terrible this fire was. Is it still burning down there?
We had a big (to us) bushfire in Norway last summer, but it was MUCH smaller than yours. People in Denmark called their fire service and reported a fire, but the smoke came frem Norway.

Fires are still burning and as i type we're expecting 100kmh winds hitting victoria, that sure doesnt help them control it any, & lightning can spark new fires, what little rain comes with it does do much to douse it either.
