Default Washingtonia Smackdown

Here's a quick video of a tight Cotton Palm Removal.

I finally got a chance to use the ground anchor i made a few months ago.

Cheers to Ekka for the tip on rope placement.
(no more standing on ladders trying to tie a pull line to the crown)

Oh,

and contrary to reports of my demise,
i am alive and well.
(i've just been real busy)

Happy New Year to all at Treeworld.

I want to know what that airbag on the wall was? It wasn't foam.

Great music and vid ... mind you, that stump grinder needs a real man on it.

The airbag is a hessian sack stuffed full of household insulation batts.

Cool video.

Was that Stumper a rental or yours?

I noticed your groundy didn't use the handbrake when grinding saw him awkwadly man handling the stumper... With the handbrake applied you can get a clean & smooth sweep with alot less effort.

One more thing.. He had his thumbs on top of the safety bar! YIKES! I've had kickback from our 13hp Rayco stump grinder and it near on broke my thumb... It's nothing like saw kickback.. 10x the force easy. Just a bad habbit that should be ridded ASAP.

Keep the vids coming and when are ya gunna get a bloody hardhat?

Apoligies, Playfordtrees,
A good job went where you wanted it to go,You're got to instruct your customer not to walk into the drop zones saftey exclusion area..it will and allways will scare the daylights out of you when you are just seeing the tree starting to go and in the corner of your eye the customer appears to be walkng under it...

The guy on the stump grinder is my mate Shaun, i don't have a grinder so i sub-contract all my stumps out to him.
I will tell him you thought he was my groundie, i'm sure he will be pleased to hear that.

As for the brake, on those RedRoo stump grinders they have this pathetic drum brake set-up.
Saun tells me that it has never really worked properly since new, he has adjusted it, modified it and so on but it just keeps wearing out or filling up with rocks etc...
This is the second RedRoo grinder he has had, and they both never worked properly.
He has been using them for years and has gotten used to using them without a brake.
Overall he says it's a great little grinder though.

Thank you for the reminders about PPE, i am actually wearing proper earmuffs now instead of ear plugs.
I might just go and get those hard hats this week.
(do you know if Akubra make a kevlar hat?)

I know it looks like he just walks out of nowhere, but i told him he could stand there.
When i was editing the video i edited out the part where i was talking to him and telling him where to stand.

Playford, suggest Shaun tries a Stump Humper.
No comparison!

Ask Shaun if he has ever had the grinder hook into a root. I was using an old Rayco with no working brake, and it hooked a root. It snapped me down to the ground so hard that I thought I broke my neck. Good workout using those grinders though.
